Last night I took my 2016 LTI, A8 out to really see what it feels like for the first time. I've been careful with it during break in and wanted to see how it performs at WOT. In sport and track modes, with WOT shifting, at the shift I hear a pop or bang from under the car. Do not notice it in tour mode. Seems to be audible more than mechanical and no other after effects noticed. Any one else experience this or have any ideas what it is?
Normal, there were a lot of posts on it when the C7 first came out. Not sure of the technical details, but it has to do with delaying the shift a few milliseconds for performance.
I think it is just the A8 very quickly banging into the next gear. A little frightening at first but now I smile every time my head is thrown backwards. It's great !!!
There is a very short ignition shutoff at the moment the shift takes place. Briefly interrupting power flow allows the shift to be completed very quickly while simultaneously reducing wear to the transmission clutches. The pop (and sometimes bang) is unburned fuel (a VERY small amount) hitting the cats and does not cause a problem for them.
I have a 16 a8. Still in break in mode so haven't experienced yet. I will say that this seems cheesey. I love my vette. It's my second one in one years time but this scenario just doesn't seem to reflect the over all quality of this vehicle. I guess I need to experience it before I judge it but.....

its a performance shift, it isn't about sound, its about fuel cut out to engage the next gear as quickly as can be done, ever heard f1 cars shift or moto gp bikes, same type sounds , you ought to hear my S1000RR at wot with clutchless shifts at 14k redline even a sharper bang thru its akropovic race system, music to the ears

I experienced my first WOT shift tonight in my '16 A8 whe getting on the interstate after a car show. Holy crap! Reminded me of the sound the IMSA GTLM cars make on the track. I luv this car!!

My 2014 A7 Z51 with nearly 22K on her now has done that since the 1st time I went WOT after break-in. And yes, you're spot on with the explanation so it's just something we can all enjoy during those precious moments .
