I have the Cobra Drive HD cam in my Vette. Tried numerous eBay/Amazon cams and didn't have want to spend $300 for the blackbox stuff. It has GPS and comes with a decent mount. Good night performance and image is clear. Only thing it doesn't have is wifi but I can live without it. Taps and runs right off the rear view mirror. It's $99 at Costco, and I can pick it up with my massive rolls of TP and chicken.
This thread ruined my Sunday. I had no idea that there are so many of these on the market. Finally decided on the Rexing V1 which arrived yesterday. $100 from Amazon. Looks VERY promising in spite of it's "plastic-ey" feel. Seems like the perfect "starter cam" for me. More to follow.
Never had a dash cam before and I'm looking for some recommendations from anyone one the forum. It will be primarily used for a possible collision witness. Any of you that have one, I would like to hear either your negative or positive on a particular unit. Also, how it is displayed will have some bearing on my decision. Cecil.............
check out waylens.com they are the new PDR that streams to your cell phone instanly if it was waterproof which it still might be this would make a great front camera for parking also
Great thread......now for my useless post. I forget the brand but it will come to me, for around $230 CDN a buddy of mine who does stereo installs also retails one that also comes with a rear mounted camera and motion sensor, great idea to have a rear and motion. If I remember the brand I will post it up or I will just call him on Monday.
I bought this one yesterday. For 59.00 and free shipping I was really pleasantly surprised. At that price point, I considered it a throw away if it su#ked. I was very very surprised at the quality. Don't get me wrong, its plasticky and the instructions are horrible...but once you navigate around that, its pretty amazing (albeit I have only had it for 24 hours).

Ii just bought the Cobra Drive HD also but have not installed it yet. Does it meet your expectations for a dash cam and do you like it now that you have used it for several weeks.
Its great. I actually bought another for my truck that I drive more. Really happy with the video quality. I wired it into the rearview mirror bundle and mounted it right in front of the mirror. Haven't had an issue since install, and just cleared the memory card the other day since it was full (I have the motion lock turned on and with my driving style it tends to lock alot of files lol).
The other thing I like is the fit and finish. I had two previous eBay/Amazon that felt like plastic junk; the cobra actually looks and feels well built. Also it's small and not like a lot of the ones that pretty much look like a radar detector, I usually don't notice it when I drive.
Don't think I ever posted pics of my install, but here they are. It sits next to my Escort on the blend mount and is pretty well hidden by the mirror when I'm driving.

I took a closer look at the photo. Did you use the suction cup for mounting or another method. Your photo is unclear.
About a year ago, based on some positive reviews, I bought a couple of the G1W-C. They were both poor quality devices; I returned them.
I have the PDR in my 2015 C7. The main plus is no other stuff hanging on windshield with cord hanging to power outlet. Downsides include having to remember to start it; stops recording after 99 minutes so you need to set a reminder alarm on phone if on a long trip; does not restart on its own. Cannot turn audio or data off. If you need the recording as evidence, you may not want the last say 30 minutes of audio with your spouse or data from your speed run from 20 minutes ago on the evidentiary recording. You cannot auto limit file size as you can with other devices. You could later edit the video, but that would damage the credibility of the evidence.
The benefit of even the cheap dashcams is you can turn audio & data on/off. By limiting the files to say three minutes, you don't add in extraneous video/audio/data to your evidence. Another solution for those mounting something on a windshield is your smartphone. There are numerous dashcam apps for Android and I presume for iPhones. Either stick your phone up each time you get in car or use an old phone and leave it up there. Only downside to that is the possible invitation to break into your car.
I use an old Android in Airplane Mode as a dashcam on long trips. The quality and features are way better than either the PDR or most dedicated dashcams. I don't use it as a DD because I don't like the invitation to break in the car. The app I use is DailyRoads, see links:
When I was at Photo Expo in NYC last month, i saw this on display. It was very intersting. I've been toying with the idea of getting one for my DD. Supposedly, they intend to release firmware updates that would support 128 or 256 gb SD cards.
That, plus its motion activation and deactivation seems like a perfect camera for auto use.
