Doesn't matter how far away you park. There's always one a-hole who has to park next to it....I guess they do it just to **** me off...notice how many open spaces there are?
Sometimes I'll park my pickup next to a nice car just to offer them at least one side of door ding protection, I wouldnt usually seek out a lone car but you never know..

Let me understand - what appears to be a nice pickup parks legally next to you in a parking lot - and that automatically makes the owner an a$$hole. You might want to reconsider the roles here.................

....plus, why didn't you grab the island stall? You eliminate at least one side that way.

1) Psychologically people don't like to be alone, they see another person in line for something, they get in line too, they see another car parked alone in a lot, they park next to it.
2) Some people really like it and want to get a closer look at it, so they drive over there, then they're there already so they might as well park there and get an even closer look, maybe snap some pictures on the way in.
3) Some people think that by parking their car next to yours it will somehow increase the desirability of their own car, kind of like having a gay couple move into the run down house next door instantly makes your house more desirable.
4) Some people are just jealous or hateful a$$holes, be glad they decided to park like a dick instead of keying you.

No matter what a person does seems like always someone has to come & park beside you.
If they didn't bump up your car why the bitching? My car is exposed every time I park in a public lot. I park within the lined off areas with the other vehicles and have not had any problems. Parking away from everyone sets the stage for abuse, people think you feel your special.

Yes, he probably did. So long as he didn't ding your door, I wouldn't get upset.
I have developed a different take. After years of parking in the boonies to avoid door dings, I finally came to the realization that it pisses a certain type of person off, the type who will damage my car out of jealousy. Parking by myself makes me appear elitist and rubs his nose in the fact that his car is not as nice, he doesn't make as much money, etc.
Since that day many years ago, I switched to picking the spot closest to the door that I can fit into like everyone else. I figure that sends the message that I'm no better than anyone else, just a regular guy lucky enough to drive a nice car. So far, I've had good results with that approach, no dings or scratches for many years.
And should it ever happen, I figure its easier to repair a ding than a key scratch down the side anyway.
Why didn't you take the curb spot? I always hug the crap out of the curb so that even if someone does park next to me, it eliminates chances of them giving me a door ding.
That **** makes me rage. My car has been hit by one of these idiots before pulling out/in. Came back to find a nice big dent in my GTR after parking FAR out of the way.
They are not doing you a favor parking near you, especially when there are open spots they easily could have taken.
