New 2015 C7 owner for almost 4 months now, what a great car. In a previous post the book, All Corvettes are Red, by Schefter was mentioned. I haven't owned an American car in over 25 years and I am trying to learn the history of this iconic car. The book in great detail goes into the history from the inside of the massive problems they had building and getting to market the C5 Corvette which almost died during this period. This book is all about the passion and almost fanatical love for Corvettes. Do not pass this book up if you are a Corvette fanatic.

All Corvettes Are Red is an excellent read. The Corvette did come close to being dropped - sure am glad that there were some very determined advocates for the car who kept it alive.
I just finished it and I was really glad to do so. Thanks for the recommendation. It made me think more about all the things they juggle when making the car. A few the come to mind are:
- weight - it is a big deal team make weight in order to get the gas mileage they needed while at the same time wanting the mass to make the car behave better over bumps.
- aero - tradeoffs required to hit the aero number they wanted (like smaller tiers, belly pans, etc.) vs the weight those things might add or the performance it might take away
It makes me wish to read one about the C7; I bet there are a lot of good stories there too.
I am a C6 owner and just finished the book. Fascinating look at the development of the C5 and the inspired, dedicated designers and engineers. Also very interesting to see how a huge company operates. The trials and tribulations of the repeated start-stop funding of C5 development was mind-boggling. In the end, Corvette prevailed and a great new generation was produced. I am loaning the book to a friend who is not a Corvette aficionado since he will enjoy the business-aspects covered in the narrative. Two big Corvette waves with thumbs-up!
I just ordered this one and started reading it on the C7, awesome book w/ a ton of in depth info. I had read a history of the Corvette book recently that was hundreds of pages long and very interesting on every generation Vette but it stopped at the C6. This one if GREAT! Also ordered the one the op recommended but the history of C7 has me hooked and I cant put it down.
