Im new to the C7, mines is 2 weeks old. Is the splitter for protection of the underside of the bumper or for looks? I've had 2 vettes, a C5 for 15 years and a C6 for 4. I never had any trouble bumping into curbs. And I do think it looks good on the car but do you have to drill into the bumper to attach? I had never heard the term before I came on this forum.
Actually...it does help to save from scraping the bumper so much as well by taking the blunt of it....however, if you're installing one for this reason, I would only recommend the cheap stage 1 z06 splitter that's only about $100.

At high speeds a splitter increases front downforce. Look at what NASCAR did a few years ago. However most of us added them for looks. In my case to balance the side skirt addition, which solved my rocker panels getting dinged from pebbles thrown from the sticky front tires! I added carbon fiber side skirts to match my OEM visibile CF roof so added a CF splitter. It did not require drilling into the underside of the bumper although I did add a few pop rivets. I used the same ones that were used to install my side skirts.
The stage 1 Z06 splitter uses existing bolts and requires some drilling. It's on the underside of the car so it can't be seen. If you get that splitter, they supply you with rivets to attach it. I recommend using plastic scrivets which are easier to remove if you trash the splitter. Otherwise you have to drill the rivets out, not a big deal, but the scrivets are easier.
There are multiple threads on this...
I think the Stage 1 splitter completes the front end of the car..
I used OEM bumper cover screws to attach the leading edge... stronger than plastic rivets and require only 1/8" hole...Use 1/4" plastic rivets only in the two center holes than cannot be reached to use a nut inside the bumper.. (use factory u-nuts because the bumper cover screws are an odd thread size ( M4.2-1.41 with 17mm washer) and are self-locking)
