It's not the door lock, it's the solenoid locking the gas cap. That's why you hear it on the drivers side. If you're going to have your dealer look at it, they can check that mechanism.

wow! That makes sense. My dealer won't check it he'll just tear it apart and replace it. Not sure I want him learning on my car. Is it an easy thing to get to and is the replacement going act any different over time?

As I mentioned in another post, most corvette techs are better than the other mechanics when it comes to working on your corvette. He probably has done your repair before. With all of the problems showing up on the C-7's, be glad you have a warranty. If you don't get an extended warranty, I hope all the problems will show up before your 3/36 runs out.

Thanks for your confidence and support in corvette techs. I'm sure there many skilled ones out there. I'm not too keen on social media criticisms but unfortunately the large local dealership available to me does not instill confidence(car purchased from a forum vender as this dealership exhibits all the ridiculous sale practices we all know) on my last visit for oil I requested PDR software update and head service mgr working on my car asked what PDR does AFTER he had the car ALL day to do a short job. At least my rockers aren't cracked(yet)

Bumping an old thread because I remember seeing some people talk about this before and mine is starting to get loud also. Does this fail without replacement or just stay loud?

Anybody have a link to the solenoid part and replacement instructions? I am at 3+ years/32k miles and out of bumper to bumper warranty.

That won't stop the noise...
Just take fasteners out of wheel well liner, reach in, and unplug the fuel door actuator..If the noise goes away, that was the problem..
I got tired of hearing the actuator cycle multiple times, and was afraid it would fail with the door locked, so I just removed the complete actuator..

This sounds like the way to go... If you unplug this, will it always default to the "unlocked" position or do you need to unplug it when it's already unlocked?

It's funny, but the only time I notice the noise is right after reading threads like this.

Hole plugged, and it can make all the noise it wants. It's become a scotoma.

I actually like the sound of the lock pin hitting the scrivet. It reminds me the autolock did its job.
