Is the Computer Aided Gear Selection (CAGS) system really for emissions or is it a clever way to help mask the crappy cold 1st to 2nd gear shift problem on the M7 ?

Obviously not to "mask the crappy cold 1st to 2nd gear shift problem" since it is so easy to avoid the forced 1-4 shift. CAGS was much more intrusive on the C6 than it is on the C7.
