Default A8 Learn/Unlearn Question

Probably my imagination but seems like after my car sits for more than a week, I get the rough 2-1 downshift until the tranny warms up. Is this due to the internal temperature of the tranny fluid or does the tranny unlearn while it sits unused?

Might be the "converter drain back" issue that has been talked about.

Regarding your delayed engagement when you first start the vehicle. Give this a try, when you start the vehicle. Wait 30 seconds before moving the shifter out of park. This give the transmission time to fill the torque converter. I recall speaking with you on the converter bleed back condition and a service kit is being release shortly.

Same thing here. After a couple hard punches of the throttle, everything is good for a few weeks.

I plan to mention it when I go in for my first free service in the spring.

Fast learn only works on a8 cars that were built on or after sept 29th 2014, the first 9000 built do not have the fast learn option and have to go through a drive cycle process that is time consuming and doesn't work very well.

Don't understand all the issues, in the past most if not all of the Automatic cars I have owned function fine after been driven a short distance. I have a early A8 that functions like a champ that I am completely pleased with. The shifting is great when running the 1/4 at the strip, don't know how it could be any better. I don't track the car so the trans never get hot.

This is my plan. Need to call a couple nearby dealers and see if they have any experience "teaching an A8". If not, I'll make the trip down to Criswell since they sell and service a lot of Corvettes.

The rough 2-1 shift has nothing to do with unlearning.
Once the trans learned the way you drive it doesn't change unless you start driving different over a period of time.
And it does not just learn the way you drive and then stop learning .... It's always learning.
If it works fine after it warms up, and works the way it has learned so far, that should tell you it has not forgotten what it's learned
IMO it has to do with the Trans Fluid temp and possibly in combination of the torque converter draining as mentioned.
Good Luck and hope everything works out

The way I avoid the problem is never let it sit for more than one day. With 4890 miles on my 2016 I have never had this problem.
