Obviously the older C6 Z06 has more power on paper but the divide is not that great. 465 vs 505. I was wondering if anyone here has traded a C6 Z06 for a C7 and can describe the comparison between power and handling of these cars. I'm trying to decide whether or not to buy a C6 Z06 or wait and buy a base C7.
Buy the C7! I've owned both... The C6 Z-06 is faster, but the C7 has many more elements to it. It's a much more refined car, creature comforts the old car doesn't have, as well as being a more comfortable car to drive. If you get one then decide you need more power... Well you have plenty of options available out there. Choice isn't hard if you drive both. Best of luck.
I went from an 08 Z06/427 to an 11 ZR1 and now to a C7 Z51 coupe and have never looked back. As said, the C7 is so much more refined and an all around balanced car. The C6 Z06 had more of a track car feel with a much trickier clutch. The 427 had more power in the lower rpm range and you could feel it. The C7 has plenty of power, probably more than the average driver will ever need. In the end, it's speed vs looks and agility. Just my opinion.
Made the exact change, had a 08 z06, have a 15 1Lt base with Zf1 manual trans. You will not miss the power difference and the C7 is such a nicer car to drive period. I am a 1/4 mile guy and fool around on the street, still do not miss the 45 hp diff.
The C7 has much better bite on the street compared to the Z06 .
I traded my 2009 3LZ C6Z on a 2LT 2014 and I agree that the C7 is a more refined and comfortable ride. Although I haven't tracked the C7 yet, I have to say that I miss the low end grunt of the C6Z. It was a beast on the track with upgraded shocks and sway bars. There were few cars that could catch it and fewer yet that could pass it.
Since the track near me has had some management problems I haven't had the opportunity to test out the C7 yet, but I'd love to see both cars on the track at the same time.
I even considered trading the C6Z on a 2012-13 Z with the mag ride and came within a whisker of making that deal in 2014 but something scared me off on the mods on the car I wanted.
When I was at Spring Mountain in 2012 for the 3 day Z06 school, I managed to catch and pass a retired policeman who was driving a ZR1. He told me he was trained in hot pursuit and couldn't believe that he couldn't catch me after I had passed. Of course that made my day.
You have a difficult choice but if you choose the C6Z, make sure it's loaded and has the mag ride with the PTM and you'll have a winner.
However, I do look forward to getting my C7 on the track despite the rigorous prep it requires.
