The "cap" will make NO difference if you do not do your own changes; they will put in what the boss tells them. Probably GM dexos.

For about the 1000th time, that only fits dry sump cars, not wet sump, which is what this thread is looking for.

When are folks going to learn .......... Dexos is not a brand of oil. It is simply a specification ! Go look at a bottle of Mobil 1, Castrol or, any of the other majors on the shelf at Advanced Auto, Auto Zone or Wally World. They all state that they meet or exceed the dexos specs.

Default My service deal would not change Mobil 1 cause of the cap

No Sir-ee! It must say Mobil 1 on it or the service dealers will do whatever they want! Service manager at Weseloh in Carlsbad, CA argued with me that the oil change would be Dexos (compliant) just like the cap he said. I went home grabbed my laptop went back to show him the advise thread from the Corvette Forum. Then they called me back to inform me that they would indeed use Mobil 1, they checked on the Chevy service site. I doubt they used Mobil 1. I will change my own from now!

Check for the oil part number on your paperwork and Google it. There are different PNs between the dexos1 spec GM 5w-30 and Mobil 1 5w-30.

And your story is one of many where it was "the cap rule", hence people wanting to buy it. I'd personally be concerned that an obviously aftermarket cap may draw attention to itself and have the exact OPPOSITE effect.

I did a lot of research about a year ago when GM said we should use Mobil 1 and dealers shouldn't up charge for it. I immediately found several that would fit my dry sump but failed to find anything for the wet sump. I do believe a wet sump cap and a "Mobil 1" dry sump cap could be cannibalized and epoxy glued back together to make one. I'm surprised that Sean from VetteFX hasn't produced a Mobil 1 decal to cover the "Dexos". To those who say you don't need it, the service guy will do the correct thing, you're probably right. I wanted one just like I wanted my Lloyd's mats.

edited to add for dry sumps: the FC215 has a blue seal just like the original cap. The FC221 is identical except it has a gray seal.

Sean would be violating trademark law as soon as he tried to sell it, he's gotten in trouble for that before....

Give up now. A few know this; the rest don't want to.

He could get permission. I would hope he's done that with GM to sell his "Z51" logos and "Corvette" logos.

Of course he could, but won't, it would be a Mobil oil permission.

Maybe I should have stated that he could get permission from Mobil. They were giving out free stickers but unfortunately they didn't fit the fill caps.
