There is quite a bit of information on the PVD process of wheels vs chrome via the internet. Just complete a search and you will get a good understanding of the PVD vs Chrome wheels.

There are several advantages to owning wheels in the PVD process vs chrome, weight being one, and the lack of pitting vs chrome.

The process is shown and explained on several sites. It's a good education.

I have two sets of PVD wheels for winter snow tire use.
1) treat them like paint.....they do scratch and chip. I have one set that is peeling around the center caps a Lexus dealer had done before purchase.
2) they have a slight "texture" to the finish, they are not glass flat like chrome.
3) Never take them to a car wash with tire scrubbers or you will end up with scratches on the edges of the rims.

IMHO good for winter use. For summer time go chrome.

Pictured are one PVD'd rim. Look close for the finish.
