Two base levels from which to build from in terms of interior and performanc options, those two performance options being Z51 and Z07. Additionally, if you look at the website builder, when you select Corvette, the two models appear and offer you to build either, along with their starting MSRP. I think it's pretty clear the Z51 is an option of Stingray, not a "model", as much as people would like it to be.
Badge on the fender is of the model...one has a stingray, one has "Z06". Pretty clear I think.

As to the haters and their post yup they are sooooo much that it is funny
MY pet peve is = were the heck are my factory
Z51 EMBLEMS !^
My dealer gave me the large laminated 'flip pages' with colors, etc. that are used in the showrooms and for '14 it described the Z51 as a performance package, not a specific model. It mentions two models; Stingray coupe and convertible. If I recall correctly, my window sticker says "Stingray w/Z51" or something to that effect and that is reflected in the base price being higher than the standard Stingray. The Z51 is not shown as an option on my sticker with a specific dollar amount for it like the red brake calipers, NPP exhaust, etc. are. This is one of those issues that will not go away. An option or a model doesn't really matter to me; I bought it for the handling experience I wanted and how it's marketed is GM's call. (however they seem to be inconsistent, which only fuels this discussion)
I think the OP has something here. There is a clear difference in the way the Z51 option is selected with the C7. Instead of a box that gets checked with the C5 or C6 (just like a radio option or polished wheels) now its the first decision requested. Do you want the base option or the Z51 option, then you build the car. Both Carfax and Autocheck report whether or not the car is a Z51. (Of course, Carfax also reports if it's a 1LT, 2LT or 3LT so that kind of shoots that argument). But I'd like to know why the change with the C7?
You're all wrong!
The model (for all Stingrays and Z06s) is "Corvette". The make is "Chevrolet"!
(although it's hard to find any trace of "Chevy" on the car!)
This Z51 "model vs package" debate only comes up when we want to have an excuse to put a non-factory badge/sticker on it. Well, whether it's a model or not, Chevy sells a factory center cap- not really all that different from a badge (why make a special cap for a "package" and not a badge?):
Wow seriously, 4 months ago I was a cool person in my 2015 VY Z51, due to lots of brake dust on my wheels and both sides of the car as well as my VY vette attracting more attention then I like- it's sold. Now I am a Loooooser owner of my new 2015 black BASE corvette and guess what I loved it!!!
Please grow up people, looks like those of you that can't afford a Z06 corvette trying to make there Z51 somethings more special like a diffrent model, please stop, you are special you drive a Corvette we are special are cars are special to us. Please stop this thread, people enjoy your cars cheers
What is so AMAZING is this exact same discussion has taken place years ago on the C6 forum with some of the same people.....and in many different threads as well. For once understand that Z51 is a OPTION and NOT a model. And, if you want to put a Badge on your corvette that states you have a Z51 option package that's YOUR business and do it if it makes you feel better. As far as the Canadian saying that those who order a Z51 because they can't afford a Z06....I could never understand why Canadians buy vettes in the first place, knowing they can only drive them 2 months a year. And, my 2016Corvette Convertible's MSRP was 82,290.00 and last time I looked...I could have purchased a Z06 for LESS.
