You are right most of your generation love to follow the ricer look. But the ricer black wheel fad is starting to faze out. Check them out so you can stay in touch with what is "Cool". Google ricer wheels and hurry up before the bandwagon leaves you buried in black.

It's not necessarily about black wheels (I'm even just meh with black wheels) but more about wanting anything but chrome.

Chrome doesn't belong on performance cars. these guys are just stuck in their ways.

I had an 87 Vette with gold wheels and gold emblems and I thought it looked terrific, but you know that we all would agree it would be terrible today. I have a C5 with chrome wheels that I like and last month bought a C7 with black wheels. It is all fashion. In five years my C7 wheels will probably be out of style and I'll have to change to the newest trendy thing such as body color wheels!

When I bought the C5 it had silver painted rims. I swapped those for a set of OEM polished rims and absolutely loved the look. So did the mechanic that changed out the tires, and he is under 35.
I just traded for a C7 and it has silver painted wheels. So far, I like it the way it is. I might go to chrome, but really don't like the black wheels. That's why Corvette makes different options, different strokes for different folks. Works for me.

I've had a set of black wheels and really, really tried to like them but they were horrible. Took what was a really nice looking truck and made it bland/boring.
Anyone running chrome or even black today is out of touch according to the younger generation anyway. It's all about color.

I don't like chrome but in rare cases, I enjoy colored wheels. White, silver, bronze, anything that offsets the rim from the tire and contrasts the color of the car.... My favorite would have to be brushed aluminum. I think that convertible Z looks good. I wonder how it would look with white rims but I think it would look sharp in a brushed or anodized gunmetal finish (maybe a little closer to bronze).

To me it depends on the color combo. On my Blue with black stripes car, they would look awful. On some C7s I have seen in other colors they look great.

I am pretty sure that chrome rims will always be around.

I think i will add to what i said early.
chrome looks great on a Cadillac or other luxury car/SUV.
But on a high performance car, nope.
Just walked into any Porsche, BMW, benz, ferrari, Lamborghini dealership. Most cars will have some type of sliver shade, or black rim. If chrome was so great, why no chrome ?
Only in a american sports car like the corvette will you see a huge following for it.Because chrome was a huge style in american during a certain time. For some reason old men love buying corvettes also( that i will never understand)
You can post all the pictures you want. It makes to difference, I prefer the blacked out look. So does every younger guy i know.

You know, it's funny, this thread made me go check out the Porsche build site and so I spent a few minutes building a 911 Carrera, a Cayman GTS, Boxter GTS, 918, 911 Carrera GTS and a 911 Turbo.
Some interesting notes from my builds:
1. There were absolutely ZERO (even options) for chrome wheels. None. Unless I completely missed something, none were offered on any of the Porsche's that i built. Chrome was nowhere to be found.
2. Most of the cars (if not all, cant remember) had around (3) different black wheel options. From satin black, gloss black, and jet black metallic.
IN FACT, the 911 Carrera GTS comes STANDARD with black wheels only, and even (2) different options of black wheels. Then there is (1) option for silver instead of black.
I literally could find NOT ONE chrome wheel on any of Porsche's current lineup. Maybe there is one and i missed it, not sure...
If that doesn't tell the story, I don't know what would.

Does anybody here care what options Porsche offers? I don't.

I think whatever looks best on the car be it black, chrome, machined or some other finish.
If we consider performance: chrome is heavier with more rotating weight so it makes sense that we see less options for chrome wheels on performance cars.

you will only find a chrome option AND chrome following on a american sports car.
the European and Japanese performance cars dont even offer it. Its a old american guy thinking move. which isnt a bad thing, its just a fact.
