I ordered a TR Z51 2LT at my local dealer on January 2nd. I was provided a GM Workbench Order number. However, GM still hasn't picked up the order and it is still in the 1000's order status. The sales manager explained a lot of dealers in the Midwest aren't getting their orders picked up. When I look at other threads in the C7 General Forum however it looks like placed orders are moving. Is this a sign there is a problem? I've never been through this process before so any insight you vets (pun intended) can provide is appreciated!
It's only been a couple of weeks so it's premature to suspect a problem other than that your dealer hasn't received an allocation to build your order. That usually happens on Thursdays so I'd check with the dealer again in a couple of days.
Sounds like they don't have an allocation for your order. I would recommend at least calling one of the forum dealers (MacMulkin, Kerbeck, Furman, Fichtner etc) to talk to them. I bet you not only get your order in, you'll save a few grand on top of it. Good luck!
Your dealer does NOT have an allocation yet. When he gets one, your order will go from 1100 (Order placed) to 2000 (Order accepted by GM) If he is a small dealer he probably does not sell many corvettes and he will not get many allocations.
^ What they said. also 2 weeks isn't soon enough to be worried, but I would think they don't have allocation.
Any dealer that's not high profile (like the sponsors here who would be risking a lot) will order the car and tell you whatever they want to string you along and your 6-8 week turnaround becomes a months long frustration- all so they could take your money.
The first allocations of 2016 are on this coming Thursday. Whatever your dealer told you about getting the order placed back on 1/2 wasn't right
I called around to many local dealers a few weeks ago, it's amazing how the sales staff is willing to say ANYTHING to get you to come in and sign on the dotted line for an order that they can't even place. Many just don't know how the process for vettes works, some just choose to lie.
I ordered my 16 NRB Vert on 8/5 or so from a local dealership and was told how the process works as they didn't have an allocation and would get one in 2 -3 weeks. And they did get it by the first of September and my car was built on 10-5. My dealer was very honest and upfront with me. Price was around 8% off of list. So I would give it a week or two as long as you feel they are being honest. If you feel that they arnt, Id just ship and talk to one of the forum dealers.
The problem I had when I ordered my C7 was I didn't even get a Work Bench Number after a month and folks on this Forum told me to cancel and re order from a Forum sponsor which I did and got the car in 6 weeks. However I think the original dealer may have thought he had the allocations but I believe at that time GM separated them by coupe & verts. And there's several excellent Forum dealerships that'll help you out and save money. Good luck!
