Did any of you guys that are having issues experience the 2-1 hard shift? I notice that my car does the 2-1 hard shift only when I drive my car hard, and does not go away until she sits for a long while, I just did the new update not to long ago and still the same.

Did yours do this from day one or did it start doing it later? Mine didn't do it until I had it for a few months. Just curious.

Default now what...?

I'm supposed to take delivery of my new 2016 Z51 A8 car this weekend, and I'm stressing out about this TC problem...! Im going to call the dealer first thing tomorrow, and find out the build date. Only problem is, if it is an early 2016 build, what do i do? The loan is processed, checks have been sent, car is insured,...I basically Own the car, just haven't picked it up yet, and now i find out about this....!

DON'T FREAK OUT. The odds are in your favor you will NOT encounter any problems with the TC. Don't let it ruin the moment of owning the world's most sort after sports car.

Enjoy the moment...Enjoy your awesome new ride.

Those who did experience a TC problem encounter it when the car goes into V4 mode. That is why I only drive my A8 in manual/paddle shift mode and when I do put it in "D" (automatic) I have the AFM disabler installed so it never seems goes into V4 mode.

You have a 5yr/60K mile power train warranty that covers your transmission. Enjoy your car. If you have a problem it is covered. I doubt you will have an early build 2016.

Hello REDBULLIT,

I’m sorry to hear that you are experiencing an issue when your vehicle is shifting from 2-1. You mention that you’ve recently had an update done, so I’d be happy to reach out to your dealer in inquire further about your shifting concern.

If you’d like me to assist in this way, please send me a private message with your full contact info, VIN, current mileage, and the name of your involved dealer.

Have a great weekend,

Corey K.

My guess is that the torque converter leaks down when the engine is off and the fluid has to repressure before shifts are normal. The 2016 has the auxiliary cooler up front under the front clip and that adds additional fluid that must repressure.
My Stingray A8 was built exactly the same time/same week. 7000 fairly easy miles, altho I've done some aggressive hill climbing/shifting out west with speeds above 120 at times. Some cold weather (20-30 degrees) but no cold transmission fluid issues. Absolutely no problems - but I'll be looking for issues over the next 2-3000 miles if that's when this TC will show it's weaknesses.

I'm no expert and still learning, myself, but i believe the TC slip is computer controlled to "micro" slip when the AFM transition is made in order to absorb some of the vibrations. A DCT is not able to do this, thus the requirement for a classic torque converter auto.

This is a great transmission, all issues aside. It shifts in auto faster than a dual clutch, even though technically speaking there are alot of similarities between a DCT and this 8L90 that it shifting as fast, or faster, shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.
Good info.

You need your car's exact build date which you can get from Chevy Cust Service with your VIN. The engineering change was implemented 10/28/2015 per TSB #16-NA-014.

I have that info on mine. Specific build date was 10/14/2015. I have just hammered mine to the limits and all is well. 25,000 miles on her.

This seems to be a consistent comment. People that drive it hard aren't having problems.

Above I said this was good info, which it is. One point to clarify, from what I have read related to the DCT, is it does use slip to smooth gear changes and when starting from a stop. It does not appear the DCT systems use the "micro-slip" that in a torque converter trans is done by on-off pulsing of the TC clutch. Anyway, I am not sure a DCT couldn't be used with an AFM system. Keep in mind the AFM in the M7 works fine.
