Did anyone get an email for 3 free years of OnStar? The email contained my vin# for my 2014 stingray and said to push the OnStar button and ask for the 3 free years. My vette is in winter storage and I will not be able to do this until April. Has anyone tried this?
In the 2016 brochure, it says 5 free years of Basic Onstar. Will find out in the spring when the car goes back on the road... for free, i'll take it... i just hate it when they start automatically charging you for it... i've made the mistake of purchasing phone minutes for the car... never used.. infact i forget i even have it...
I'll just about take anything that is free. The On Star deal sounds good, is it the full ticket or just a partial service offer?
I have found that getting anything that is free there is a hook on the line somewhere.

There has to be a BIG catch to anything free with OnStar. Buyer Beware!!

Same here. I bought some minutes when the car was new, never used a single one. I'm being peppered with emails trying to get me to renew or extend my service. It expired a few weeks ago I think. Don't need it and won't renew especially at their prices. Can't you still call for help if you need it without all the other add-on services?

NO. Basic OnStar doesn't get you that. I called them about a year ago when I bought my 15 Terrain and basic OnStar doesn't get you the crash protection.
From the OnStar web page: Services Included
The OnStar Basic Plan includes the following services (services may vary based on vehicle make, model and equipment):
Select features of the RemoteLink® mobile app: Remotely start your vehicle (if factory installed), send a destination to your in-vehicle navigation screen, and lock or unlock your doors — all from your smartphone. Not just near your vehicle – but anywhere you have a wireless connection.
Advanced Diagnostics: Every month, your vehicle can run a check of your engine, transmission, antilock brakes and more and email you the results in your Diagnostics Report. You can relax knowing your vehicle is checking up on itself and updating you on a regular basis. Plus, Diagnostic Alerts help take the guesswork out of day-to-day vehicle maintenance. Diagnostic Alerts inform you of any immediate vehicle issues.
Dealer Maintenance Notification: Is it time for an oil change? A 60,000 – mile checkup? You'll always know because OnStar will email your vehicle Diagnostics Report to your dealer or preferred service professional, and the dealer will contact you to set up a service appointment.
Services Not Included
Without a paid OnStar plan, you will not have access to other OnStar services, such as Automatic Crash Response, Emergency Services, Crisis Assist, Stolen Vehicle Assistance, Turn-By-Turn Navigation, and OnStar Advisor support.
Once the free plan that comes with the car expires I sign up for the OnStar Safe and Sound Plan. That way I get my insurance discount, get the crash notification feature, diagnostic info/help and the phone. I usually buy a few minutes phone time for each vehicle since the OnStar phone is so much better than a hand held cell especially in poor service areas where the much better vehicle antenna gets the signal through to a cell tower while the cell phone is trying to transmit through its crappy antenna and not getting recognition from any cell tower. Overall not a bad plan and not all that pricey with the employee discount (which they tend to give to anybody who asks) along with the insurance discount. Have it on all 3 of my GM cars including the 2003 Tahoe that I have owned since 2002.

"send a destination to your in-vehicle navigation screen". That is a real exceptionally good feature of the basic version. Just type in a one time address with the On Star app on your phone and send it to the car. When you get in the car your NAV pops up with that address you just entered on your On Star phone app and you are read to go. Very nice! Thanks for pointing that out.
I just got the email today. I may do it, but if they ask for a credit card number, I'll certainly decline.
The email says to:
1. Push your blue OnStar button
2. Follow the prompts to speak
3. Ask for the 3 years of Basic Connectivity
Activate today and enjoy:
* The RemoteLink mobile app - Remotely start your vehicle and lock and unlock your doors with just a tap of your smartphone
* Advanced Diagnostics - Each month your vehicle will run a thorough check of your engine, transmission, brakes and more, and OnStar will email you the results
* Dealer Maintenance Notifications - When it's time for routine maintenance, like a tire rotation or tune up, your dealer will contact you to schedule an appointment
An adviser will reactivate your service for 3 years - with no obligation and zero cost!
Account Holder - (lists my name)
Account number - (lists my account number)
VIN - (lists my VIN)
Vehicle - 2014 Chevrolet Corvette
The three-year offer in the email referenced doesn't make sense to me. It's clear on the OnStar site that the Basic Plan is effective for five years from the date of purchase on 2014 and later models.
New! The OnStar Basic Plan now comes standard on 2014 model year and newer Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles for five years from the date of new vehicle delivery. Plus, it is available to owners of eligible pre-owned, 2011 model year or newer vehicles for three years.
My 2015's full OnStar coverage was good for six months and the car is now one year old. The locking/unlocking feature in the phone app still works and I'm still getting the monthly diagnostic emails, so I'm not sure why they would offer a three-year Basic plan for a 2014 C7 when it's clear that you have five years by default. Have any of you had the OnStar Basic plan expire requiring a renewal?
I'm on a monthly Onstar Safe and Secure plan at $21.38 for my 2014 Vette and 2008 Avalanche ( two vehicles). They charge my visa every month and this month I got a charge of $53.84! Turns out they did away with my plan and automatically charged me for a new plan called "Security" on both vehicles. Note they did NOT notify me of this change...just charged me a 250% increase. After informing them that they could assign the Vette to the new lower plan called "Protection", i had them delete the Avalanche. I also demanded they refund the difference retroactively and after a lot of escalation to a US agent, they agreed. Looks like they deleted features and raised prices...a lot. Better check your bills folks. I now pay $19.25 on one vehicle with less service. Great, huh!

And that is why you should never give them a credit card number. Ask to be sent an invoice. They assume once they have your card info, they can charge whatever they want.
