Default Sting Ray name

I know Myron Scott named the GM car "Corvette". But I can't find any succinct information on who specifically came up with the name "Sting
Ray". Anyone?
Someone asked me that the other day and I didn't have an answer and have done some research but can't come up with "The" answer.

IBYG I'll Be Your Google

Wikipedia says:

The Corvette Stingray Racer Concept Car was a privately funded concept car that formed a basis for the second (C2) generation Corvette Sting Ray. The Sting ray racer-concept car was designed by Pete Brock, the youngest designer to work at GM at that time, Bill Mitchell, GM Vice President of styling, and Larry Shinoda in 1957. The basis of the Stingray was the 1957 Corvette SS, a stillborn racing project.

I found an article that describes Mitchell's love of deep sea fishing which was the inspiration for the Sting Ray name. Two words back then. Interesting stuff.

Yes, today is it a Stingray but I believe it has gone back and forth. I believe there was a Sting Ray in earlier years.

As far as badges go, 63-67 models were badged Sting Ray, 68's no badge at all, then Stingray script appeared on the fender from 69-76. Finally Stingray on the console 2014-2016.

this may sound dumb ...but i liked the stingray chrome ..that is on each front fender...so i ordered one and applied it to that dead area in front of the passenger seat on the dash.... easy to take it off if i so choose

It's your car. Others have added the "Stingray" in chrome as well. There's nothing "dumb" that YOU can do to it...except maybe a Lambo or Ferrari full body kit.

...and if you look closely at the C7 Stingray logo, you'll notice that its actually "StingRay" with the "R" being as large as the "S", likely to pay homage to the original 2 word usage.

Two words "Sting Ray" for the C2s, one word "Stingray" for the C3s and C7s.

I had a Sting Ray.

The Sting Ray is probably one of the most ugly of all 300 sharks. . Always reminded me of a glorified skate. The Mako is probably the best looking of all (maybe the White Shark is a close second) Naming the Vette "Mako Shark" in my opinion would have been a better choice.

The show prototype for the C3 was called the Mako Shark.
