Doesn't the Navtool talked about on this forum provide that?

(Personal opinion but to me Waze always looked childish).

If I go into Bluetooth settings on my phone, and disable access "Contacts and Phone log" & "Messages" the problem goes away. I'm hoping with the marshmallow 6.x update, the problem will be fixed and I'll be able to remove the Samsung dialer app and just use Google's 'Phone' app for dialling, contacts, etc.
Interesting. I will have to try that on my LG. Otoh, one should not have to do that. I did not as mentioned with the '15.

I just dropped my car off for an oil change, and asked about the Android Auto update. They said they still haven't heard anything.

I posted this in another thread, but maybe I can get an answer here.

I was over in the Acura thread and found this little tidbit of imformation I was unaware of and would like the hive to comment:

Also, I should note that Android users should be aware of the move away from MHL, making a HDMI based connection for smartphone mirroring a dying solution. Some Android phones (specifically the Galaxy S line right now, and also iOS and MS ones) are moving toward DisplayPort via USB-C, so be aware that while your current phones may work with a HDMI based mirroring device, your future phones may not (especially if you change every 2 years).
So if I understand this correctly, the HDMI smartphone mirroring works ok now but may not in the future?

I am not sure that statement is quite correct, as the Galaxy S7 being released in a couple weeks has got standard USB not this USB-C.

How does this impact GM Apple Car Play? I understand that GM is providing Android Car Play now too. Does the above statement impact that too?

DETROIT – U.S. Chevrolet dealers now have the software to update eight-inch MyLink systems with Android AutoTM capability in select 2016 model year vehicles. The update is only available through Chevrolet dealers.

Owners of 2016 model year Chevrolet vehicles that qualify for the software update will receive a communication from the brand on how to receive the update at no cost. The update is expected to take approximately 30 minutes.
“We are working with our dealers to make the software update as quick and easy as possible to minimize any inconvenience to our owners,” said Brian Sweeney, U.S. vice president of Chevrolet.

Chevrolet models with the seven-inch MyLink system already include both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability and therefore do not require any update. Apple CarPlay has been integrated with both the seven-inch and eight-inch MyLink systems in select vehicles since the start of the 2016 model year.

2016 model year Cruze sedans with compatible MyLink systems will arrive in dealer showrooms with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability installed and will not require the software update.

Chevrolet offers Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility in more models than any automotive brand. The 14 Chevrolet models include vehicles ranging from the brand’s most affordable car, the all-new 2016 Spark, to its highest performance model, the Corvette Z06.

Using either application is simple in a compatible 2016 Chevrolet. A “Projection” icon on the MyLink screen is visible when a phone is not connected, then changes to indicate either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto (whichever is applicable) when a compatible phone is connected via USB.

Android Auto requires a phone running the Android Lollipop 5.0 operating system or higher, while Apple CarPlay requires an iPhone 5 or later. The user interfaces themselves are designed and developed by Apple (for Apple CarPlay) and Google (for Android Auto).

Compatible third-party apps need to be downloaded to a phone before using. Apple and Google’s privacy statements and terms of use apply. Data rates will also apply.

2016 Model Year Chevrolet Vehicles Eligible for the Android Auto Software Update
8-Inch MyLink Infotainment
Malibu (Excludes Limited)
Impala
Volt
Camaro
Camaro Convertible
Corvette
Corvette Convertible
Colorado
Silverado
Silverado HD

Neither Apple Car Play or Android Auto make any use of hdmi mirroring. The display and interface are entirely on the vehicle display with data and processing back and forth to the phone via USB and or bluetooth.

I'm so mad I didn't look beforehand. I really didn't expect it to be ready March 1. I called again and the guy said he still hasn't heard anything about it. Maybe I'll try another dealership.

As to the HDMI conversation, I didn't think about it being a mirrored HDMI to the screen. My wife has a Nexus 6P, Google's own flagship phone, and it has a USB-C plug. I seriously doubt they'd make their own phone incompatible, but I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Got my 16Z updated yesterday. But my archaic Motorola Droid Razor Max is not running Lollypop (5.0 or higher), therefore I can't run the Android Auto app on it.

Hopefully the phone will get updated to Lollypop someday.

BTW, after install of AA you will have to pair your phone again. Car won't let you pair while moving, so do it before you leave dealership.

I got the update installed today, and generally I like it. Though I've only spent around 5 minutes playing around.

One thing I noticed, the Google tutorial says to press the speak button on the steering wheel to access "ok google" type of voice command functionality. When I press the button, it takes me out of android auto and back to the Chevy software. Has anyone else experienced this? Was I pressing the wrong button?

Try pressing the button longer - if I press my button a short time, I get the car's speech recognition, if I press and hold the button, I get Siri

Receiving Android Auto compatibility update at my dealer today. I was told I'm the first one to request it at this dealer. Hope the install goes smoothly!

If you got Siri then you're using Apple's CarPlay not Android Auto.

To those who have gotten it installed, I was told that one needs to get a "certificate" from GM before they can get it installed. Is this true? Did you receive some sort of certificate in the mail?

Chatted with chevy.com again and I was told that the "coupon" (used to be a cert - now they are calling it a coupon) will be emailed or snail-mailed to you. I asked why a coupon was required considering all 2016's are eligible?

Here's a transcript:

Sarina:1:17:08 PM

Hello and welcome to Chevrolet Infotainment Customer Support! How may I help you today?

Andrew DeFaria:1:18:09 PM

Can you explain to me why a coupon is needed for me to get Android Auto update on my 2016 Vette? It was said to me by the last chat that it was so I don't have to pay for it. But really... Aren't all 2016 Vettes eligible?!? Why then a coupon?

Sarina:1:19:43 PM

Good afternoon, Andrew! First I would like to congratulate you on your 2016 Corvette! Awesome vehicle! If your vehicle is eligible, you will receive a letter in the mail as soon as your local dealership has the update available. The reason for this coupon, is that way you do not have to pay for this update.

Sarina:1:20:24 PM

Also, not all of the 2016 vehicles are eligible for this update. It depends on the system your vehicle is built with. And all our vehicles are built differently.

Sarina:1:20:53 PM

Is there anything else I may assist you with today, Andrew?

Andrew DeFaria:1:21:02 PM

Why should I have to pay - All 2016's vettes are eligible! All have the required hardware. If not then which vettes are eligible and which aren't?

Andrew DeFaria:1:21:24 PM

Also, how long will it take to get this email? If the AA update was available Mar 1st then isn't 2 weeks enough time to mail a simple coupon?

Sarina:1:21:37 PM

Again, it depends on the system your vehicle is built with. Not ever Corvette has the same system.

Andrew DeFaria:1:21:55 PM

It is true that 2014-2015 do not have the required hardware but all 2016's do!

Andrew DeFaria:1:22:13 PM

Surely the dealer can tell between a 2015 and a 2016 vette.

Sarina:1:23:12 PM

Android Auto was not avaliable March 1st. I apologize for that inconvience. It did become available today. Again, it will be a letter in the mail. Also, 2014-2015 will not receive this update at all. I apologize for that misunderstanding. Android Auto will be for selected 2016 and up systems.

Sarina:1:24:36 PM

Does this answer all of your questions on Android Auto, Andrew?

Andrew DeFaria:1:24:40 PM

Well there's a web page on your site that said it was available Mar 1st. Was that lying? And for the 3rd time here - I have a 2016 vette. When you say "selected 2016 and up systems" are you saying that some 2016 vettes will not be able to get AA and some will?

Sarina:1:26:43 PM

What website are you speaking of? We have not released the date we released it would be available some time in March. Which it's available today. However, your local dealership will contact you once they have it. And that is correct. Some 2016 Corvettes will be able to get the Android Auto and some will not. Depending on the vehicle build and the system they have built into the vehicle. I spoke with Kallie and she informed she gather your VIN and your vehicle will receive this update once your local dealership has it available.
I suggest, therefore, that if you are an owner of a 2016 Vette and want Android Auto then head to chevrolet.com and click on Owners then Chat now. Ask the rep for AA and they'll ask for your VIN to confirm whether or not your car can even do AA.

All 16 vettes can get the update. I got my update on March 2nd. Never received a coupon. Just told my dealer the AA update was released by GM and they did it. No questions or charge.

Your dealer seems to be dragging their feet.

Just back from getting my car updated with AA. All went well. I even used it to get home, and it worked without issue. I told them I heard about it from GM's website and/or the corvette forum. They upgraded mine without issue and without charging me.

And if you get the chance let us know just what this does for you or can do for us in the car. And is it worth risking it going to the dealer....
