Default Indescribable torture

OK, last Thursday (3/10/16) I was supposed to go from Houston to Hammond Louisiana to pick up my brand spanking new 2016 Z06.

So it rains in Houston, nothing bad or even heavy, however the weather turned really bad and decided to flood most all of southeast Texas. It's amazing how bad the rain got between Houston and Orange which is around 100 miles.

OK, it is what it is, so I decided to make a one way car rental through Enterprise as their Hammond office is about a block from Ross Downing. I make it for 3/18/16 figuring that Interstate 10 would be open a week after the fact. Well, I guessed wrong. I-10 is still shut down and the only ways to get there are through Port Arthur and Holly Beach along the Gulf Coast, then up highway 27 to Sulphur, then I-10 to Hammond. However a call to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriffs dept cancels that idea real quick.

The next closest route takes me up through Livingston Texas and through the Piney Woods of east Texas. A call to the Newton County Sheriffs office cancels that. The final route would be through Shreveport and the wife and I have made that trip several times and it's around 5 hours out of the way, each way.

All the paperwork is done, insurance is ready, everything is ready to rock and roll. I'm dying to start her up and head on down the road. However as much as I want to get into the car, with all this traffic I would be right in the middle of just isn't worth it. It can wait a couple of days. Hopefully I-10 will be back open early next week and I can head that way. Either that or have it shipped to the house in a covered truck.

Anyway, I had to either cry or vent, so the members benefited from a vent.

A Vette with a sticker like that you don't want to take any chances. I assume you don't another Vette to keep you company until the weather clears.

Well, at that point, all you can do is sit back and enjoy some

Better to be patient and keep you and your rig intact.

I saw on the news tonight record size hail in TX, WOW, the weather can really change in TX. I would think some dealerships in TX had some damaged cars. Be glad yours is in NO.

OP - it may be frustrating, but nothing like what the flood victims are going through. Hang in there, I-10 should be open by Monday.

I worked 3 straight weeks of 16 hour days after Hurricane Ike getting peoples lights back on. Then another 2 weeks of 12 hour days. The money was great, however it took a toll on all of us.

I'm in Dallas on business. Had to jet over to Shreveport this morning so drove from Dallas to Shreveport and back. On the way back I drive through the storm. The Ford Expedition I rented didn't take too well to the GOLF BALL SIZED HAIL that I drove through for 45 minutes.

The rental is trashed.

I feel you my brother.

Have the car shipped, with all the water they could float it to you.
It's a shame you can't get the car, but it's even worse for those in the flooded areas.
this is definitely a first world problem.
Hang in there, as the weather is going to change shortly, like May or so.

You could fly into LA & then take the scenic drive back via northern routes...

Would be a nice spring break drive.

What a beautiful Z you've got waiting for you!
Can't wait to see your pictures, nice job on the yellow calipers .
"The waiting is the hardest part" indeed.
It will be worth it, pics when you settle it in of course.

We thought about that, however 1 day notice air fare is really expensive, and if we're going up through Shreveport I want to take a couple of days to enjoy Sam's Town and the other casinos. (We love the casino lifestyle, but will only gamble around $50-100 per day, low rollers at best). One good thing is that the people from Ross Downing will pick you up at either New Orleans or Baton Rouge airports.

They opened up the I-10 bridge at the Texas-Louisiana border, however I couldn't get much of a traffic report.

I'm leaving home at 5:00 AM to get a rent car at Hobby airport at 5:30 AM. I know they will pick me up, however this reservation was just made a couple of hours ago.

There is one sense of urgency, that's to get to the I-10 bridge and see how bad the traffic is. Hopefully it's just a little heavier than normal, so I'm figuring to be at the bridge around 7:00-7:30 and see how bad the traffic is.

Once I get in the new car I can relax, however I'm going to be a nervous wreck until I get there.

Pasadena to the Tx-La border is 100 miles.
Tx-La to Baton Rouge is 150 miles.
Baton Rouge to Hammond is 40 miles.

Coming home in the new Z06, no miles and all smiles.

I agree, by the way i have never tried the 25. The 18 is great . I love the 21 Glenlivet, but the 25 M is long gone from these shores and if found would retail for north of 1500?

As hard as it may be to wait, you're making the right decision. No sense taking chances with bad weather in the Z.
