I noticed a crack in my windshield yesterday. Doesn't look bad from the inside out. But if you run a fingernail over it you can feel it from the inside. Not from the outside. I have two pictures of it. One from the outside, and one from the inside. Obviously the windshield has to be replaced. I am going to Spring Mountain and leaving this Saturday and driving my car.
I want to deal with this when I get back. I think this may be a warranty issue and a trip to the dealer may be in order. My reasoning for this is because the crack is on the inside to the feel. (stress?) I don't recall anything like a stone hitting that part of the windshield and there is not a divot or anything like that. Usually when you get a stone chip and don't tend to it, it can spread. What do you think? Warranty, or Insurance claim?

Insurance claim. Regardless of the cause, the windshield failed....rock chip, bird strike, vandalism, garage door....matters not to the insurers. I drive a lot and get them replaced frequently.
If it just cracked for no apparent reason (like something hitting the windshield), It should be covered under a warrantee. Obviously you have something not lined up right that is putting pressure on the glass. The downside is timeframe of getting it replaced. If you get it in first thing Monday, they might be able to get it back before you leave. While you could go the insurance route and get someone out to the house and replace the glass in a day or two, I would be concerned about the underlying cause of the crack in the first place.JMHO
Not a HUD display at least. Maybe I should show it to the dealer Monday about t alignment issue possibility. The dealer would also indicate if it is warranty too maybey. If I go the insurance route, they can't prevent me from driving it until it is replaced I imagine? I do want to drive it down to Corvette school as I am leaving Saturday. I don't know how long it would take to get a replacement delivered. I think I would want an OEM window replacement also, and not an aftermarket? Correct?
Thanks.
Most likely if it's cracked on the inside there was a small chip on the edge of the windshield, perhaps from installation. Stresses from driving could be enough to twist it just enough to start a crack running in the visible area. I would claim it as warranty first.

Yup, this is the route I'd go. Keeping in mind that the windshield is a sandwich, if the crack is interior side only then it sure as heck isn't from a rock.
I'll take it down to the dealer tomorrow. They just sent me a birthday coupon, not the car, me. No appointment needed and a free inspection and such. Looking forward to Spring Mountain. Window fixed or not before I leave Saturday.
Good luck. I have a friend that the black laminate is separating around the top of the windshield near the roof, took it to the dealer and they would not replace it. Lots of stuff attached to it. He is going to live with it.
In 1999 I had a Camaro which had a windshield break due to stress from the body twisting, GM was very reluctant to replace it under warranty, they did finally but it took weeks to get it.
Windshields are, most times, not covered and if you use insurance they will not use OEM glass due to cost. You get Safelite or another to replace it via insurance.
I had a break in on my '09 and the side window was broken out, $600 for OEM and I got $155 from the insurance company, the cost of the glass from Safelite.
I would file a claim but not expect to get any resolution from GM. At which point I would go to the insurance route, if you want OEM expect to pay a bunch out of pocket.

Make sure the replacement is one of these, without the HUD obviously. Good luck.
I just got back from the dealer and it took the service manager all of about a minute to determine he will order a replacement per warranty. He said it may take a couple of weeks and would call me when it arrives. No pain no strain. He indicated that since the crack could only be felt from the inside that it must be a defect in material. No problem!
Thanks for all the opinions on how to handle this.
I'm not going to use my car. Just driving down there and using their car. Thanks.
Excellent.
I've done level 1 and level 2 Corvette at Spring Mountain. It's a lot of fun. Doing it in their car is almost certainly better than tracking your own car anyway.
