I've done level 1 and level 2 Corvette at Spring Mountain. It's a lot of fun. Doing it in their car is almost certainly better than tracking your own car anyway.
Total rumor ! They will always install oem glass on an insurance claim. If you pay out of pocket they will go aftermarket only by request.
Not always apparently: gardener broke rear side window on my wife's Odyssey. Safelite replaced it with non-OEM that was out of spec and stuck out so that sliding door would get stuck and reverse. Had to special order Honda OEM glass and made a mess of the car in the process!
I just got back from the dealer and it took the service manager all of about a minute to determine he will order a replacement per warranty. He said it may take a couple of weeks and would call me when it arrives. No pain no strain. He indicated that since the crack could only be felt from the inside that it must be a defect in material. No problem!
Thanks for all the opinions on how to handle this.
The dealer says it is still pending for whatever that means. I guess it just takes time to run through the channels. He said it would be covered under the warranty though.

As I said before. The only way that happens is when Satellite is told to go in that direction.
Run from Safelite as fast as you can, they use their own brand of cheap glass, insist on an OEM shield. Safelite always used their own cheap brand unless you request OEM. I works for a auto glass distributor for 9 years and the Safelite horror stories are never ending!

I have had three windshields replaced by them on several Corvettes and on the wife's car over the past 10 years. Not once did they try push off their private brand glass on me.

I'm not looking to get into a pissing contest with you. I'm just sharing what I had learned handling thousands of shields in the 9 year period I worked for an auto glass distributor and talking to 100's of installers. I never once met an installer that would say a Safelite shield came any where close to the quality of an OEM shield, that included the opinion of installers that worked at Safelite as well. At the time I was in that industry Safelite called its brand "Safevue" they were in the habit of changing their brand name every few years due to the bad name they earned. Safelite doesn't " try to push their private brand of glass" They just always use their brand unless a customer specifically requested an OEM product. Ex.. PPG, LOF, Carlite, PILKINGTON, ect..
So back to my point the Safelite brand had horrible fitment issues and was much more prone to breakage. I'm glad to hear you had a good experience with them on your four shields I just know of countless others who were not as lucky.

I don't work for them either. And they used OEM glass on the Corvettes and the s/o's Mazda. In fact, the shop in Arlington, TX ordered all three windshields from Chevy and Mazda dealers respectively. May be because mine were insurance claims and I carry zero deductible. Living in TX what with our hail storms and the uninsured motorists from across the Red River ............. Gotta watch out for those darn Sooners ............
Had the exact same crack on mine a few weeks ago. Took it to the dealer and they were going to order a replacement under warranty. The dealer called a few days later and claimed that GM wouldn't approve the warranty and the crack must have been caused by an impact. I still don't see how since the crack was on the inside. Anyhow, I ended up taking the car to Safellite. They didn't use OEM glass but there is no 'visual difference' between the OEM and what they installed on my car. This is a HUD windshield, btw.

Interesting, did your insurance cover any of the cost or did you pay for it totally out of pocket ? I know on my Corvettes, they had to order the windshields from a dealer because of the special coating required for HUD glass. Besides which, I told them I would only accept OEM even if it ment waiting for it to come in.

I'm in FL, so insurance covered all of it but they would only pay for aftermarket glass. If you're paying out of pocket, I believe the difference between OEM and OEE glass is only less than $100 according to the tech I spoke to. The location I went to had the HUD windshield in stock.
I noticed a crack in my windshield yesterday. Doesn't look bad from the inside out. But if you run a fingernail over it you can feel it from the inside. Not from the outside. I have two pictures of it. One from the outside, and one from the inside. Obviously the windshield has to be replaced. I am going to Spring Mountain and leaving this Saturday and driving my car.
I want to deal with this when I get back. I think this may be a warranty issue and a trip to the dealer may be in order. My reasoning for this is because the crack is on the inside to the feel. (stress?) I don't recall anything like a stone hitting that part of the windshield and there is not a divot or anything like that. Usually when you get a stone chip and don't tend to it, it can spread. What do you think? Warranty, or Insurance claim?
Today mine cracked in the exact same spot. I'll need to take it to the dealer and see what they'll do. Damn!

And I bet you can only feel the crack from the inside. I am still waiting for the warranty replacement to arrive on mine, but they said it was covered.

I'm sure they will replace it. I don't even notice it, but it has been about 7 weeks since the dealer sent the warranty repair in. Mine is not a head up display either.
