Default TPW Explained?

Does anyone have details on TPW? I understand it is "Target Production Week" for the build of your new car. Mine is 4/4/16. Does that mean the car will start to be built the week of 4/4? Or will is be finished the week of 4/4? I understand that a C7 takes between 2 and 2.5 days to complete assembly (inc. painting). Which day is being tracked?

Also, is there any way to get more details (such as where you are in line on that week?) I would really like to know if it's more likely to be built on Monday vs. Friday...

It's just a "target" date.

Your car could start on 3-31 or 4-1 and finish on 4-4, OR your car could start on 4-8 and finish 4-11 or 4-12.

If you are doing Museum Delivery or Buyer's Tour you could find out where your car is in line. Other than that, I don't "think" there is any way to find out. The Museum Delivery staff might be willing to help but I suspect they don't have time.

You could call the museum, that would be your only bet for finding out. You can always order the photo book, then you'll know for sure and get some pictures the day it's finished!

I understand it's just a "target" vs. a "guarantee". But it still has to be a discreet event they are "targeting" for that week. Is the event they are setting a "target" date of the Production Start? Or the Production End? Good idea on the NCM though; I may call them and see if they can shed more light on it.

As I understand it, it is the Production End. However, it is just an estimate and having ts produced a week early or later is not uncommon.

it is an estimate thats all, it could be built the following monday or tuesday of the TPW, or as said, could be built earlier than the TPW or later. People that know would not tell unless they wanted to be terminated.

I mean it will be built (started/completed) within the 7 day period, whether that 7 days overlaps between weeks or not is another question. Nobody here on a forum can tell you the exact day of production completion prior, nor will anybody at GM until the car is done. The numbered status changes is all you get.

You will find the answer you want after it is built. The word "target" is important in "target production week", as others have stated, as in the target week of the car being produced (started/completed for most)

Hopefully the OP is not concerned about the "Never buy a car built on a Monday or Friday" BS. Consider that the final assembly takes more than a day and there are major components built at other locations (like the engine, transmission, differential, brakes, etc.). Chances are that some significant portion of your car was built on Monday or Friday. Heck, you could be lucky enough to have final assembly occur on Friday and Monday (since Bowling Green does not work weekends). The seemingly widely held belief regarding Monday and Friday builds got its lift from a fiction work by Arthur Hailey called Wheels way back in 1971.

My TPW was 3/21/16, the car rolled down "final line" which is near the end of the process on 3/22/16 in the morning. I'm guessing my car was painted on the 20th and 21st. So it's the week your car will be completed.

With modern methods and production controls the Monday or Friday thing is mostly just a "fun joke" everything is the same regardless of the day.

However in the days before automation and stringent production control, there were day to day and shift to shift variations. I've seen some 1960's and 1970's cars come with "bonus" things in the body like coke or sprite cans.

Not at all. I'm doing NCM delivery, and pushing for a pickup date less than two weeks after end of TPW. B/c of timing conflicts, it would cause major issues if the tentative date slips. Talking to NCM, they said "probably ok, but no guarantees". Just trying to gauge my chances; if it's finished early or mid week, I should be fine. If it's started week of 4/4 but finished week after, not so good.

My understanding is it will be code 3400 the day or two before start, so I guess I can keep checking w/ GM Customer Service to see when that code hits.

The NCM will know your "born on date", so stay in touch with them. Good luck with the scheduling.

That depends to a large degree on where it is going. Destinations over 1000 miles (roughly) from Bowling Green go by a combination of truck and rail. Under 1000 is truck only. Rail shipping adds a considerable delay - weeks. Cooper Transport has 10 days after the car is released for shipping to have it on a transport truck. If going by rail, it gets trucked to Toledo to get loaded on a rail car. If going by truck, it gets put on a transport with others going to the general area.

Seems cars are moving alot faster now.
My car sat in New Boston, MI Distribution Center from 9/2014 (around 9/16-20, not sure of date trucked from BG)-10/20/14.
Shipped by rail to Selkirk, NY arriving 10/27/14.

Oh, and my TPW was 9/15/14--built on that date.

If you are in Louisiana like your name suggests, it will be trucked down from BG to your dealer, no rail.

As a reference, after it was loaded on truck in BG mine took 3 days to Houston if i remember right.

I was told today that mine has "Shipped" whatever that means for NCM Deliveries is beyond me.

Obviously it gets trucked across the street with the other deliveries, but it's not on the webcams yet. So I assume it's in the shipping lot at the plant, or in some space in the back of the museum.
