Did my daily detailing in the Columbia River Gorge yesterday. We have been having 90 degree weather in the Portland area lately. Sometimes you just got to love global warming! I always have a detail kit in my trunk.
I know exactly where you took that photo. Before I entered the military, I cruise those roads on my 1984 Porsche. Love the landscape.
As far, as being obsessed. I am the same, no rain. It's a corvette day, I tell my wife. the moment I get into my "thinkering" cloths after work, I wash the corvette. That goes for all the Vette I rotate throughout the week.
I'm OCD (Old Corvette Dude), and about the same. The Wifey says I'm crazy. But, as a greater mind than mine has said, "I'm not crazy, my Mom had me tested."

I clean mine probably too often. I enjoy both the process of cleaning and driving a clean car. The problem is, the more time you spend rubbing your paint the more love marks (to steal from Larry @ ammonyc) you're going to leave. It's so easy to hit it with some detail spray or waterless wash to get the dust and bugs off, but unless you're doing a rinseless wash or normal two bucket wash, you're probably going to do some minor damage even if you can't see it with the naked eye. Over time, this builds up and then the car needs a polish again.
As time passes, I've learned to let the car stay dirty longer when I can't give it a proper wash because I don't want to put these "love marks" in the paint.
I do the same with all my cars (each has its own cover) and I use different spray detailers for each car (I find the paint on each car takes to certain sprays better than others), and yes my girlfriend thinks I'm crazy. I have a good excuse I tell her, I am an Aspie.

Rain doesn't bother me. I will drive another car if it is raining sometimes. No sense in getting it muddy if I don't have to, but I did get over the "never drive in rain thing". I understand though. We all feel differently.
But on the scenic hwy in the gorge, I like all those curves and turns throughout there. Especially if there is no traffic. If the sigh says slow to 15, I just at least double it.
Have driven both the C7 and the Ferrari in the rain this week.
Ferrari needs a bath bad, but it's gonna be two weeks before it gets it as I'm taking a trip in the C7 tomorrow and it's likely to get rained on again and again....
I actually kind of like driving in the rain. One, I love seeing the beading and the water flying off the paint. Two, it gives me an excuse to clean the car later
After giving my Vette a bath & wax, I usually lightly whip the car down with a microfiber towel ever time I take the car out. After 5 or 6 rounds of lightly whipping down the car, I'll use spray and shine to add another smooth coat over the paint and that can give me more time in between another bath and wax. It takes me about 10 minutes per whip down with a microfiber towel. I guess I'm obsessed but it's just easier in the long run to keep the car as clean as possible and helps remove any bugs splats or minor dirt marks you get from normal commuting.
Although I wouldn't be against letting the car get a little dirty and maybe whip it down every 3 drives or so. Overtime I get more comfortable with being "OK" with the vette being a little dirty. It helps that I have the Arctic White paint, seems to not show dirt as quickly. At least for me that is.
I don't drive in the rain though, although I have been caught in the rain before, but I'd be a bit to OCD, and would have to give it a good bath and wax again just because.
