2014 M7 Convertible; 55K miles - I had one overheating event a while back. The dealer found nothing. Since then, I occasionally see the temperature gauge rise, (to maybe 230F) when I am stuck in stop and go traffic.
230 is normal operation for these cars. Even on the C5s the high speed fans didn't kick in until 228 or so. The LT motors are designed to run hotter for emissions.

Really? My car has never been above 200 degrees (Wet Sump LT1). And, I live down here in hot, sunny, FL. Well maybe my gauges are broken. That would then be the first problem ever with the car.

Has anyone found the cause of this yet?
I have a 16 1lt a8 and live in Las Vegas the highest temp. I have seen so far is 190. That's on a hot day in traffic. My prior Vette a c5 zo6 would run 240 in same conditions. The c7 is fourth vette I have owned and the first to run cool on hot days.

I live in S. LA and last summer my 2015 (A8, wet sump) never exceeded 200°, even in summer traffic, with 195° the normal temp when the thermostat is fully open. This seems to be a pattern for '15 models and later, which has led to some speculation that these cars have re-configured thermostats and/or software compared to the '14s.

Had overheating problem last Friday on Rt 4 outside of Orlando. Was in stop and go traffic for approx. 20 minutes. Instrument panel lite up and chime started to ring. Message appeared on instrument panel the car was overheating and that A/C was being turned off. Temp was showing 232. 30 seconds later A/C come back on and temp was down to 210.

Is this indicative that the auxiliary cooling fan came on and did its job? 30 seconds doesn't seem to be long enough to cool the system by 20 degrees.
When running AC in hot conditions with stop and go traffic ALWAYS set the AC to recirculate mode. This improves cooling effectiveness and efficiency because it isn't mixing hot outside air with the cabin air and this reduces the amount of heat being dumped into the AC condenser which is in the cooling stack ahead of the radiator.
