I'm looking to upgrade my C6 to a C7. Call me weird, but I'm not a fan of the rear spoiler on the C7. Admittedly, I'm not into tracking or racing Vettes, just cruising. I love the C7 styling, but think the spoilers take away from the clean lines, plus impede on the storage of bags under the hatchback. The problem is, most that I see for sale in the used market have some version of one. Not sure how they are mounted. Can they be safely removed without incurring any sort of body damage, such as left over holes from the mounting hardware?
I'm with you on the clean lines, took me a long time to find one without a spoiler, although I don't see how they could interfere with bag storage inside the hatch. Anyhow, my understanding is that they are mounted through holes in the body, so removal wasn't an option I considered.

Should have been more specific. Was referring to lifting the bags over the spoiler when loading/unloading. IIRC, the spoiler is mounted to the car's body vs the actual hatch? Am I correct?
I don't like the spoiler either. I wished GM would offer a "spoiler delete" option on the Z51 like Ford does on the Mustang.
Problem is there are quite a few holes 6 or 8. So you'll need to have a body shop fill and paint, buy a base car upper rear bumper in the same color from a salvage yard or eBay etc. or buy a new OEM piece w/o holes and have it painted.

Thanks Tool Hoarder. That's what I had feared. Will just have to try and find one w/o the spoiler. Not a big enough issue to dissuade me from purchasing a C7 with it though.
Boy am I glad I have some allies on the spoiler. I never liked what was offered. It looked mickey mouse imo. It looks out of place. I have been waiting for an aftermarket spoiler to come out. My eyes tell me the car looks so much better without it. I'm real partial to the rear end on the car.

After seeing my Z51 sitting next to a base vette with no spoiler... I guess I'm the odd man out, I actually like the spoiler heh. Then again I came from a '01 WS6 with a significantly bigger spoiler...
It is all about the age of the viewer.
Born after 1980 and to you - the spoiler looks like the product of an ugly faux muscle car from the 1970's;
Born before 1965 and you wonder - why would anyone buy the car without a spoiler - the bigger the better.

I completely disagree with your assumption. I'm over 50 and this is first car in 30 years that I don't have a spoiler on. And it's because (as I posted earlier) it ruins the lines and contours designed into the rear-end.

I was born well before 1965, but fit in your first group. Not opposed to tasteful spoilers in general, but think they spoil the clean lines of a C7. Besides, I doubt their usefulness at the speeds most of us geezers drive (under 120 mph).
Squeak, I guess I'm even odder. I like the spoiler, but the reason I didn't get one was as you said, loading and unloading the trunk. We use our Vettes for road trips, and it's hard enough to load/unload as it is without scratching something.
The spoiler is a few inches taller than the rear bumper, don't see how it impedes upon putting stuff in the hatch unless you're 4' tall. Spoilerless C7s make me shed a tear, they look so plain. Just IMO

A C7 without the spoiler looks like an adolescent boy who hasn't yet gone through puberty. The thing... its just so..... small...
I wasn't crazy about the spoiler either but wanted the Z51. Then again, I wasn't crazy about the entire rear end of the C7...Fast forward to owning it. I got over it real quick. My view from the cockpit is what I see 90% of the time and love it as well as the way it drives, everything else about the car and the technology. Bottom line, you will get over the spoiler spoiling the lines just like everyone else got over not having round tail lights and the geometric design of the back end. In fact, I've come to like it.
I would prefer not to have a spoiler as well, but I am wanting MRC. It looks like that is impossible, though. Selecting MRC on a base gets you bigger wheels and the spoiler automatically. If I'm wrong about this, please let me know. I'm about to spring for a C7, but was waiting for the 17 builds.
And it's cool if you like them! Just a preference of mine.
