I just won a 2017 Grand Sport Collectors Edition a few weeks back, will be picking it up on Feb 9th.
I had purchased a few tickets over about a year for various ones they were giving away. I always went for the ones that were limited to 1,000 tickets. I purchased over the Internet and always wondered if they really made it into the raffle :-) I can say, they do, totally legit, super excited to be picking it up in a few weeks time.
Definitely give it a try.
Care to share which raffles? I don't usually but would ...buy raffles.
Whenever you complete your taxes maybe update this thread and let us know actual IRS amt for the car. Can't be more than 20 cents on a dollar.
May be a little difficult to sort that out, but I'll try to remember. I can say that up front they collect 25%, which won't be enough. It also depends on the tax bracket you're in as well.
I'm tracking all my expenses though, and I'm sure it will still be far less than if I bought the car new. But I'm guessing it will be close to what it would be to by the car used, after the initial depreciation....
Outside of all of that, there is the overall experience. I haven't even picked it up yet and I'm still on cloud nine....

Easy to trace the thread. Next year, just click your user name and threads started by you. Wow...25% is not enough for uncle Sam? I guess we all gotta make up for the professional draft and tax dodgers. Oh yeah...the arrival and drive home. Our local airport in Destin/Ft Walton Beach has a direct flight to BG should I ever win at the NCM

Easter Seals of Michigan has a car raffle a couple of times per year, often for a C7. Usually you get the car plus $50,000 to cover taxes. Tickets $50 and limited to 5,500 tickets, so longer odds.
I usually enter the $10 unlimited entry raffles at NCM, also.

It counts as income, so all based on your tax bracket. Just think about getting a $90k bonus check, which you'd likely have a ton of money withheld for Uncle Sam. My bonus checks are not that big! But the ones I get it seems like I get about 40% taken out. 25% feels light, but I'm happy not writing a bigger check Since it's the beginning of the year I'm going to talk with my tax guy, I may do a little extra withholding the rest of the year to make sure I don't have to write a fat check next year.
On top of this I still have to pay sales tax to California as well based on the MSRP, insurance and I'm going to get it wrapped with Xpel as well. So not free, that's for sure!
There are millions of tiny violins playing out there I know, first world problem. I'm not bitching about it, just want to make sure people know what to expect before they go entering the raffle.
They do have a cash prize as well, instead of taking the car, but I didn't enter the raffle for cash....
Owner of the Harley dealership in Lebanon, MO won a new ZR1 several years ago from the NCM. Shortly after he took delivery, on a cold morning(in the 20's) he lost control of it, drove through a chain link fence, with around $40k in damages.
What's the deal with the NCCC raffle? Looks like $50 a ticket with 2000 tickets. Payout is $56.5k for a C7 or $40k cash. Since it's essentially a donation it's a tax write off correct? Drawing for this one is 8/25/17.

raffle tickets are NEVER tax deductible. its like playing a slot machine, pure gambling. doesn't matter who is conducting the raffle or the cause.
if you are concerned about the tax implications of winning a raffle - first read the national corvette museum rules and regulations .
then ask your tax preparer , CPA for advice.

Unfortunately, you have it correct that it is essentially a donation, but it is not actually a donation to the IRS. For any donation you make to a charitable organization, you must subtract the benefits you receive for that donation. In the case of a $100 raffle ticket, the IRS deems that you received $100 worth of benefits (the value of the entry) for a total tax deductible amount of $0.

Congratulations. I had ticket 342. Have a 2015 Stingray. You will like the plant tour And Museum delivery.
One could have roughly a 50% chance of winning if they spent the same amount on raffle tickets as they would buying the actual car. This applies to the drawings that have a fixed number of tickets available...assuming all tickets sell.
If one likes lottery tickets, the odds of winning the raffle might be acceptable. It supports a good cause, but from a risk/reward perspective, it's not the best economic choice - especially once one considers there will be income taxes assessed on the prize.
When it comes to the NCCC charity raffle, in many cases your odds are good. I have been investigating this particular raffle for the last two years and in many cases they don't sell enough tickets to cover the cost of the Corvette.
NCCC is a 501-C3 organization and by law their tax returns must be made public. If they are not on a web site they must provide them within 30 days of someone requesting them. Took me almost a year to get them and a formal complaint to the IRS but I finally did get them.
