Ok, on my C6 I would send in the $200 and get new discs of updated maps for the my nav system. I noticed on my new C7, there is no disc! I also noticed that the restaurants listed in my system show some good restaurants near where I live that have gone out of business and then new restaurants established and they've gone out of business as well. Obviously, the system had data that is many years old. How does our C7 nav system get updates now? Thanks in advance for your help. It's probably in my owners manual but with a tool and resource like the CF, you folks have much more knowledge AND experience!!
Thanks for your response. That makes sense. I have a question for you though .... when you buy a new 2016, shouldn't GM provide you with a current map instead of making you pay for the update? It seems that since I just bought the system, it's not REALLY an update yet, right?

Yea sure, GM, free, lol.
Honestly even the newest update is probably 'old.'
Only company that ever did that for me was Chrysler, but that was because there were some bad errors in the map the cars were shipped with.

Check your map version against the link provided. Your car should have been built with the latest version at the time. Depending on when your car was built, when the latest update was released and when you bought your car, it is possible you don't have the latest version. That's just the way it is.
As others have said, even the most recent version will be "out of date".
That was the biggest complaint I had when I got my C7 - I asked "does the Nav System Include free lifetime map updates like my tomtom does?"
4 times I was assured it did.
Found out later that was completely untrue.
Sad that the sales guy either didn't know or outright lied.
Sadder still if he lied, as one of my parents works at the same dealership...if you are lying to employees to help make a sale, what does that imply you are doing to the general public?

Someone at a car dealer lying, who would have thought
A few years ago I bought a new F150 pickup, it was leftover and a year old. The NAV on those were on a SD card and it didnt even have my 5 year old house on the map. Salesman says, 'no problem I'll give you a free update.' He walks outside to the trucks that just came off the hauler, takes the new car box-o-stuff out of one, swaps the card and says 'here you go, free update.'

Old saying in the sales business "If you can't screw your friends and family, you can't screw anyone" Sorry, I think the guy outright lied to you. Next time your in there call him on it, and watch him tap dance when you tell him; when should I expect my first update??
It's simple - get the Android Auto update then use your Android phone and you'll have Google Maps (and Google Voice Recognition) which is always up to date and ditch the mylink cr@p.

It was the friends/family thing that made me think he might be telling the truth.
I called him on it the week after I bought the car.
The dance was entertaining, as was his bosses reaction.

Since my 2016 was built in Sept 2015 and I just bought in April 2016, the car probably had the latest map update as of Sept '15. Since I found and bought it some 7 months later, any newer updates would have to come out of my pocket, right?
Also, you say to check my version 'against the link provided'... what link are we referring to pray tell?
Thanks for your help. I very much appreciate it!!!

Honestly, unless it's a Forum Dealer, I wouldn't expect the salesmen to know much. And, if the salesman said you would not receive NAV updates, would you not have purchased the vehicle? Seems like a moot point.
Back in 2007 when I bought my new 2007 Tahoe, it came with 3 years of free map updates. I would just go to the GM NAVDISC web site, enter my VIN and mail information and I got the update, no charge. Even shipping was free!! We'll, that will never happen again... I don't have the Nav option on my C7. I just installed the NavTool unit and use Google maps through my smartphone now. Have current maps, all the time and at no extra charge.
I know this isn't what you're asking....but if you have Android Auto ... Give it a try. Far superior in terms of maps, points of interest, guidance and more accurate voice command.

Why would you not expect the salesman to know? Its not like this issue is specific to Corvettes. If you follow the link to the 2016 update it gives a list of all the vehicles it applies to, including Silverado pickup trucks.
List from the map update site:
This product is compatible with the following GM vehicles:
Buick LaCrosse 2014-2015

Cadillac ELR 2014-2015
Cadillac Escalade 2014-2015
Cadillac SRX 2013 - 2015
Cadillac XTS 2013 - 2015

Had he said no, I'd still buy the car, but I would have ordered instead of buying off the floor.
Had I ordered, I likely not have gotten NAV.
Or do like I do with my C6($200 CD to update the factory NAV). Buy a Garmin 52LM(lifetime map updates 4x annually) for $100 and use a homemade holder that sits in the cup holder(thus not stuck on the windshield, and no unsightly cord hanging down).
I understand the C7's NAV is tons better than the crappy one in the C6(that was a $1795 option), but the Garmin 52LM is a nice little unit(5") that is very easy to use and you never have to purchase map updates for it. Not having turn arrows in the HUD is no problem as I listen to the lady in the Garmin telling me that I should turn left or right in "XXX" feet onto "XYZ" street etc., and I'm watching the traffic and street signs, etc. instead of concentrating on looking at the HUD.

I'm with you on using a Garmin Nuvi instead of the built-in nav that comes with the car, no matter what car it is.
FWIW, the 52LM is discontinued and replaced by the 55LM.
For a couple of dollars more you can get a 2597LMT with lifetime maps and traffic.
This portable friction mount is currently under $15 on Amazon:
These gel pads are much better than the original stickiness of the portable friction mount and seem to hold on around corners very well. Also great for cell phone, sunglasses, radar detector, etc.

Reason: truncate the automatically-inserted amazon advertising that appeared in the gel pad link description

Try sending letters to Attorney General and Obama stating how "Offended you are by General Motors Actions".
