When I plug in my iPhone and use Google Maps for navigation, I am having an odd problem. I am getting 2 different sets of directions. I have literally approached a T in the road and the voice says turn right and the screen says to turn left. My wife can back me up on this, so I'm pretty sure it isn't the voices in my head. Has anyone else dealt with this?
Sometimes different programs use different routes. Sometimes there are settings for shortest route or fastest route. From my house there are two different routes to the freeway. Waze app uses one and Google maps uses a different one. Both get me there.
You can't use google maps via Apple CarPlay. If you're using CarPlay, you're using Apple Maps (on screen). If you aren't hearing it try turning up volume while it should be speaking. You'll notice that the system treats voice guidance as a separate volume setting than other audio like music. It handles it automatically. You'll see the second volume bar if you're adjusting volume while Maps or Siri is speaking.
I'm using Google Maps. Maybe I should be using Apple maps but that icon isn't on my phone. This is a pain in the butt as I'm now using a splitter to pick up my Garmin and radar detector. Kind of a mess. My buddy uses Waze app. I haven't tried that yet. It's kind of odd that this is only happening to me. I'm going to start with Apple maps app.

Sorry, I meant you can't use Google maps via Apple CarPlay. You can certainly use Google Maps but you'd be using it on the phone's screen as opposed to your infotainment screen. Apple CarPlay gives you a relatively hands-free experience and you don't have to touch your phone at all. I plug mine in and leave it in the armrest. At the moment (who knows if it will ever change), when you're using Apple CarPlay, you can only use the apps it shows you, so for navigation, that is Apple Maps.
For what it's worth, I've used both. I switched to Apple Maps some time ago for convenience and it's gotten very good. I travel more than the average bear and it has served me just fine.

Happy trails!
Joe, it would be hard to find someone more technologically challenged than I. So, are you saying with the Apple maps app the CarPlay will work for even little old me? The wife does have a new android 5.0 lollipop phone that as I understand is needed in this case. Thanks for the help. I would ask my neighbors 12 year old son, but they up and moved, and took him with them.

Oh gosh. I'm so all-in on Apple I forgot about Android Auto. Of course if you've got an Android device and the Android Auto update recently made available for MY16 MyLink, then yes, you'll be using and projecting Google Maps to the screen. Sorry about misleading!

No problem Joe. Thanks for the the info. We are on a road trip now, and her old phone died four days into the trip. I haven't gotten home yet to give it a try. My '16 was built the first of March, and I'm hoping it already has the needed update. I'll play with it next week. Pretty sure even I can't mess anything up.

WAZE is great. I won't drive the interstate without it. I don't see the point of CarPlay, since it doesn't support anything but Apple's inferior maps app. Apple's 'walled garden' approach has made CarPlay irrelevant.

I can't seem to adjust the maps voice volume when it's speaking. Sometimes the voice volume sounds OK and there are others when it's so low I can't hear it over the radio.

The next time the maps voice annunciates, try adjusting the volume with the paddle controls. I've found there's a separate adjustment for voice prompts and music prompts. I don't know how to adjust the voice prompts on demand yet, but I know I can adjust them independent of the music if I do it while the system is "speaking".

There must be a glitch in my system because when I try adjusting while it's speaking, the radio volume goes up with it and it blasts me out of the car.
