Default Traction Control

2014 M7 Z51

In the Track setting can you turn off the Traction Control? Do you want to turn off Traction Control?

At the road course yesterday was pushing the car more than normal since time at the track has increased. Powering through the corners I noticed that I would not always get the throttle response coming off the apex due to the drift. Once the computer felt everything was square the horse power come back in.

I felt it was a controlled drift out of the corner since I was 100% in line with the cone for the next corner. On the dash, the little skid symbol is blinking during the event.

Don't know that I want to turn it off but I thought I would reach out for some thoughts.

65 degrees in St Louis yesterday. Great track day!

Before I respond, does your Z51 have Mag. Shocks w/ Performance Traction Management (PTM)?

Good Afternoon RCB1234,

I’m glad you had a great day at the track driving your Z51 M7! Your Traction Control System (TCS) helps limit wheel spin and assists you in maintaining control, but you can in fact turn it off if you so desire. To turn off your TCS, press and release your TCS/Stabilitrak button on your center console. However, please be advised it's not recommended to repeatedly brake or accelerate heavily when TCS is off as the driveline could get damaged. If you would like to look into this further, you can find more information about your TCS on pages 9-36 through 9-38 of your Owner’s Manual. In the meantime, if you have any more questions, I’d be happy to help.

All the best,

Since my experience is with Magnetic Shocks, it may or may not apply. But there's something that I don't think you'll find in the book.

I, too was frustrated by the delay in throttle response exiting turns. It persisted even when I thought I had all nannies off. By that, I mean, Traction Control turned off with the two pushes of the button (per the manual), then, in PTM mode, dial it all the way to Race mode, which also eliminates active handling. Still, there was a lag.

Then a friend showed me that all nannies can truly be turned off if I hold down the center button, once, for about 7 seconds and then release. Try at your own risk. It will definitely show how much help you've been getting.

I started out doing this on autocross only, where the only thing I could hit were some cones. (And I sure did take out my share.) I still don't do it all the time on the track. Hopefully soon my skills will improve to that level, but not yet.

My advice would be to carefully experiment with turning off the nannies. Don't do it w/o making sure you know exactly what hitting the buttons at different points does and what the lights are telling you. There is just too much going on at the same time especially at a track for ANYONE let alone a newbie. I have a mental check list that I go through each time I go to the track, seat belt in track mode (pull out and tighten) seats/ mirrors; rev match; track mode; video; and things like steering to track. And I never change any driving modes while on the track.

You push that button down for 7 seconds..........be prepared for a handful. Think if one or 2 seconds on your lap time is worth the risk assuming you have the skills to take advantage of the raw power.

Have fun!

[QUOTE=Chevy Cust Svc;1592249472]Good Afternoon RCB1234,

However, please be advised it's not recommended to repeatedly brake or accelerate heavily when TCS is off as the driveline could get damaged.

I turn off the traction control everytime I drive the car. release the parking brake and push the button to turn off TC in one motion.

I assumed the TC just applies brakes to control the rear wheels to reduce wheel spin and control fishtailing, resulting in additional wear on the rear brake pads, especially on track. I prefer to control this myself with my right foot and the steering wheel.
I've been doing this with my Mustang Cobra for 12 years and just continued with the Z51 with Magride.

Never considered that it might be a problem. How so?

Sorry, but what exactly is a "driveline"?

However, please be advised it's not recommended to repeatedly brake or accelerate heavily when TCS is off as the driveline could get damaged.
