I'm going to Bowling Green at end of June with my 2016 C7.
Museum tour, factory tour, etc.
My wife and I have also booked time on the track there for each of us to drive 4 laps at highway speeds and also two hot laps in their vettes with their driver.
I don't have the performance data and video camera you can order with a vette.
Can you guys suggest one or two Go Pro type camera brands/models and mounts to record these laps? I would mount it inside the windshield of my car and theirs.
If mounting elsewhere is better please suggest.
I have an 8 hour drive to get there so will test the camera on the way - position / angle / quality.
I just bought the GoPro Hero 4 a couple a months ago. All you will need to buy is a windshield mount. It comes with a couple of different mounts if you want to mount it on the outside of the car. If you have an iPhone you can control it from that. Plus the new 4 has the screen on the back so you know where its being aimed. You can save some money on the older models but they do not have a screen so you have to rely on your phone for all the functions and viewing.
I don't have one, but I've read good things about the Garmin Virb. It's got a really good camera with built in GPS, plus it has an OBD dongle that gives you the telemetry from the car for your videos. It might be worth considering while you're doing your research:
If you are looking for a GoPro type camera on a budget, do a search for the following: SJCam, SJ5000 action cam or LD6000 action cam. These are very similar to GoPros, use a lot of the same accessories, but cost a fraction of the price (< $100). I have one of the older models that I use off roading and am very happy with it. The new ones are even better.
This is what I use. I found this because I used it on my racing drone to video my stuff. Pretty decent camera. Look at the youtube reviews. for the price, you can't beat it. Almost as good as a Go pro.
