What do you guys think of the hill assist on the stick shift cars? I had an issue with the feature today. I didn't realize it engaged and I stalled it. I wasn't on much of a hill. The weird thing is when I started it again it stalled when I let the clutch out???? Anyone else had this issue?
It's not always intuitive when hill assist is active. But I expect it to be on when the car is stopped on an incline, and when in that situation I pay attention to whether the car rolls as soon as I let off the brake. If not rolling then hill assist is assumed on and it gets a little more gas or a slightly longer clutch engagement to overcome. After a while this becomes second nature. I didn't care for the feature at first but have since come around.
I first had hill assist on a Jeep Wrangler and I hated it... until I got used to it.
Then I loved it. I think its only about 2 seconds of hold. I guess I just subconsciously wait those two seconds before I move.
Honestly, I dont even think about it anymore after about 50K miles on the Jeep, I didnt even realize I had it on the Corvette until I read this post. Now I gotta go check it out and see if its the same as my old Jeep
It's really not that difficult to get used to. I had it on the Camaro lease I had before getting my C7. Really all you need to do it just say to yourself "Hey I'm not on a hill - I'm on a flat service" then proceed as if you are. Works great!
Would love to have had this feature on my Porsches when I lived in San Francisco 50 years ago.....: "emergency brake" release, clutch release, extra gas....
The manual describes it but as long you're on an incline and in a forward gear, then it will be on. I may be wrong but I think If you take it out of gear, it may reset so you'd have to get off the brake as well as put it back in gear to have it back on. Pay close attention to your habits with clutch/brake/shifter because that may explain why sometimes it seems to be on and others not.
I guess I feel about the same as most of you. I didn't like it at first, but with time, it has faded into the background where I don't even think about it anymore. I would prefer the ability to turn it off if desired.
Another way to tell if its on OP is when you let your foot off the brake and it becomes hard. Like when you pump the brake when the car is off. If you know how to load the clutch like a truck driver does to prevent the truck from rolling back that could work too, but you would have to know your release point or risk rollback.Or like others have said you can give it more gas. I have never stalled it thankfully but it definately isn't my best take offs.

Been at this 2 1/2 years and finally like it! We only have small inclines but have found it holds for about 1 second after my foot is off the brake. Can't do my usually of quickly hitting the gas. Reacting more slowly works for me.
Gave up trying to have the brake release automatically, for example when the parking brake is engaged and backing out of the garage. Sometimes it releases and sometime it does not. I just don't rely on it happening going backward or forward!
I love it! In Santa Monica last week, stuck in bumper to bumper traffic on an uphill exit ramp. As we inched forward, idiot behind me kept pulling up within inches of my rear end.
I've been driving manuals for 50 years. To me, a very nice feature.
