I wouldn't be surprised if the right rear marker also fit on the left front and vice versa. Pretty easy to check. I'll bet they tooled only two different underlying pieces and then added different colored lenses.
Good observation. On my narrow-body they appear to be the same--left-rear, right-front and vice versa. GM calls the front a "Side marker lamp" and the rear a "Signal lamp" and fit both narrow- and wide-bodies, about $50 each (discounted).
Now, how hard would they be to replace?
However, I'm not sure this is such a great idea as the amber/front and red/rear color coding provides useful information to other drivers at night regarding the direction of your car. This is almost certainly set by federal and state regulations. It's not that anyone is likely to notice and give you a ticket, just that it's a change that isn't functional. (Of course, I'm the guy who also thinks that tints over tail and marker lights are similarly a bad idea--so factor that in when evaluating my opinion.)
I doubt if most drivers are observant enough to notice amber vs. red directionality--but who knows. I'm also in the pragmatic-priority group like you, but I can be swayed into cosmetic mode at times for cheap enhancements. $100 would probably put it out of the "cheap" category, though. I'm sure red and amber are a DOT mandate, but like you said I wouldn't bet any LEO would notice, or if he/she did would make an issue of it.
Anyone have the Watkins Glen Gray with the factory red dual racing stripe package? The picture generated by the Chevy build site looks pretty sweet, especially with the two tone black/red interior. I'm getting ready to order a Grand Sport and keep going back and forth between this gray/red combo and the Long beach Red with the carbon flash stripes. I was all set on the LBR, until I saw it in a cloudy day. As much as it pops in the sun, it's dull as hell in the shade. I've seen pictures of actual cars with the LBR/carbon flash stripes, but not the WGG/red stripe combo. If it looks as good as the Chevy site rendering, then I'll probably go with it.

I decided on Watkins Glen Gray after first wanting Long Beach Red. Then I too saw it on a cloudy day and it looks like ordinary maroon. I wasn't crazy about Shark Gray but when Chevrolet bought out the WGGM color I was sold. I didn't get the stripes but nevertheless, I love the color. The red stripes would look great with Red calipers.
