Are the front and rear side markers the same size and attach in the same manner? Reason being, I have a torch red Z51 and wanted to make the front side markers red (instead of the current orange). I understand that this may violate some international laws and treaties, but that aside, could I just order a new set of red side markers and install them on the front?? Just wondering if anyone has tried/done this
I recall when I replaced mine with Oracles, they appeared identical, but were stamped for their specific locations on the back.
Easy enough to veryify, just try swapping one of yours on one side. Takes 5 minutes.
Also, put a post on the BST forum that you want a set. Many people have replaced them and have the originals to sell for much less than GM would part with them.

Replacing your amber front side markers and replacing them with red is not against international laws and treaties, well it might be but that's irrelevant because it is most likely against your state's law. As such most cops will view this as a "well I'm covered and can pull this guy over for whatever else I suspect he might be guilty of and if I find nothing I at least have this for which I can give him a ticket". IOW if you stupidly do then you are asking for trouble.
That said I'm not really following my own advice as I have no front license plate. I know that's a "fix it ticket" but it is also a valid reason for a traffic stop.
Agree that this is not a direct fit swap front to rear.
The red rear markers are about 1/2 inch longer than the orange fronts and the fastening clips are a different size and spaced differently. With some modification the clips of the rear markers might be able to be trimmed to fit the front bumper cover holes but cutting and resealing and refinishing the cut edge of the red lens would also be required.

I don't know if reflectors count, but it is illegal for lights and it's not an "excuse." Think about it. It's late at night, raining, in an unlit area you're unfamiliar with. You can't hardly see the road and what reflections are there are from rain puddles throwing awkward lights everywhere. You see red lights (or reflectors.) What do you assume? That you're seeing the rear of a vehicle. Cool! Get behind him and follow.
Oops! You just ran into the side of his vehicle. You just assumed red was for the rear and yellow was for the side.
This tale related to you from an actual conversation I had with my brother-in-law, a cop, who told me the story of pulling over a pickup driver who had red lights on the side of his vehicle. Of course the guy had to argue with him, but my brother-in-law just gave him a warning--no ticket. Small town. Next time the guy was seen, he had swapped out his lights--otherwise, he would have been cited.
