Default Memory Seat Problems

If you are having the issue that, when you get in and start your vette, the seat moves a smidge and then stops and doesn't go to your preferred preset... Here is the fix..

You need to reset your "exit" preset.

To do this: Move your seat all the way back to the stop, then move it forward a smidge. Then press "Mem" and quickly "exit" until you hear the 2 beeps just like setting your Mem1 or mem2. Once this is done you wont have a problem.

The issue happens when your exit preset is set all the way back to where is hits the rear stop.

Happy driving

Do 2014's have a different seat memory set up than later years? I have tried all the stuff mentioned in all the seat threads... and I still have to always manually hold the preset button in on the door panel to move my seat into driving position. When I shut off the car, it moves to the exit position automatically, but when I get in and start the car I have to hold in the #1 (or 2) on the door panel to get the seat to move to that preset position. Someone told me its a 2014 thing... is it?

I don't think so. Not sure. My '14 was 1lt no MEM to deal with.

Have you tried setting the "Exit Button"
Mine worked like yours until I programmed it. It just cant be all the way back to the stop.

The early 2014s had different memory settings than the later 2014s and the 2015s. So it depends on when your car was built.

Mine was built 5/14 according to the sticker in the door jamb... So is that early? And do the early ones work the way I described mine to work? Seems like so much contradictory info I get on this.

Mine does the opposite, goes back on off but goes forward by itself when I open the door. Would rather do it after I get in. Tried all the settings. Wish they would do it from the seat weight sensor. I have an early '14.

Sounds like you programmed the exit to driving position.

You should be able to get yours to work correctly then. It is so hard to explain that I usually just have my customers come in and I show them how to do it and set it for them. Your local dealer should be able to show you. There is a bulletin out for it too.

Yes the early 2014s go back to position when you open the door. I'm not sure if there is a programming fix or not for this.

Mine was built 5/14 and works perfectly after a software update.

What did it do BEFORE a software update? And did you just go to the dealer and ask for it?

The seat wouldn't move forward when starting up (I had to move it by pressing and holding the preset button). Yeah, the dealer can use your VIN to look for available software updates.

Sorry for the side track, after rereading I wasn't quite specific. Mine goes back when you open door when getting out, that's ok. But when you come back and open door to get in it goes forward as you open door before you can get in. Would rather it go forward after I get my **** in.

Get your dealer to update the software. That should fix it.

The returns from Search are too voluminous, does anyone have a link to the thread authored by that nice young lady who gives step by step instructions how to set the Memory/Exit function? thanks

The 2014's had two seat software issues if you have a std shift! I have commented on the forum about them for the almost 3 years I have had mine!

Unlike my C6 where you just touched the memory button and it went forward, with the C7 M7 unless you start the car first (a catch 22 unless you are very tall and can depress the clutch fully from the exit position) you have to hold in the button.

Then it has an irrationality of having the seat move forward to the set position of key FOB in your pocket when you open the door! I speculate that was designed for Superman who is faster than a speeding bullet! That is solved easily and was define on the forum when I got my September 2013 built car-you program so it doesn't return when entering. Can't remember the exact words but whatever appears it would be logical to set -is NOT, set to off as I recall!

I have also speculated they had the M7 software outsourced to someone overseas who didn't have a car!

They offered optional dealer software after about a year that IMO was not a fix and in fact they just called in optional! By then I learned my own method which is quicker than what I call the option, "Hit The Start Key Twice" that wastes my first right had movement.

I'll explain my learned method first, since it's my DD starting quickly is important to me! When I get in with my seat all the way back (I have the options set correctly) I use my right hand to grab the seat belt. It's easier to reach with the seat back. As I am pulling it over to buckle at the same time I use a finger on my left hand to push and HOLD my memory button. When the belt is buckled my seat and steering wheel are in position, I'm far enough forward to depress the clutch and I hit the start key once! Wife always accuses me of not multitasking so that is my multitask!

If you get the dealer installed "option" which is in all 2016's (and they also eliminated the foolish "Superman Option" of the seat moving forward when you open the door!) you must waste a right hand movement and hit the start key when you get in. Since the clutch is not depressed, it won't start but the seat will move forward to the position set for that key FOB. Then you have to depress the clutch and hit the start key again! Using that method you have either wasted a right hand movement and can't reach the seat belt as easily or you have to fully buckle the seat belt first then use your right hand to push the start button wasting time! Fred Taylor would deplore those wasted moments!

For 2016 that software "option" is already in the car. Since GM never said why the C6 software and other GM cars I've owned wasn't used (one touch of the desired memory button) I like to poke fun at whoever wrote the 2014/2015 software! Maybe they will make it like the C6 for 2017 like they did for the motorized hatch pull down for 2016!!

The M7 2014/2015 software was probably outsourced to someone who didn't drive!

Must be faster than a speeding bullet to use the automatic seat recall function!

So there is no option for a 2014 to just automatically slide the seat into your saved position without either (a.) holding the button in on the door panel as the seat moves forward, or (b.) pressing the start button twice? I'd like it to just slide forward into position as I start the car.

If you're tall enough to reach and fully depress the clutch with the seat back in the exit position, it will start. Most of us aren't!

If you have an automatic, most of my diatribe about the seat software is not applicable!

I am able to do this after the software update, but I am also tall enough to depress the clutch and start the car with the seat all the way back.
