It is required in Texas, but Im still considering riding dirty and not putting one on.
I did have the c6 mount from Top Flite previously and am considering getting one for the new c7 if I do get another one. Are folks using the high or low mounts and what do you think?

I am using the OEM supplied Aero mount and a black license plate, some people even trim the Aero mount. I don't have a problem locally but on the main roads DPS just loves to stop cars with no front plate especially Corvettes.
After several stops and summons, I gave in and mounted the front plate. Using the supplied Aero bracket, untrimmed, but with a black rubberized edge trim for the plate (from Pep Boys).
It really must depend on where you live. I've had 25 combined years with no front plate. So far, zero tickets and one verbal warning. (And with the warning, he pulled me over for something else, not for the plate.) From what I understand, most officers won't bother you for no front plate unless you are doing something else they don't like or if you are being disrespectful to them. Of course, there is always that one officer who's there to fill a quota, but it has not been my experience.
Not in Texas! I have my plate ziptied to the Z06 grill in an odd manner. I run the ziptie through a washer then through the plate then around the grill bar and back through the washer. the end of the zipties is too big to go through the washer so it hold the plate on. With four zipties you have quadruple redundancy in case one fails.
I just took the Aero plate supplied with the car. Took off the cover plate then Slightly bent the license plate to contour the aeroplate and drilled the holes into the aero-plate where i drew pencil markings of the screw holes. I then Secured the aero-plate to the grill with the plastic fasteners provided to install on the car. I then placed the license plate on and screwed the plate on. Nothing at all permanently done to the corvette itself. FREE MOD for the win and didn't cost an extra penny

xwing, I hope your luck doesn't run out soon At least in central IL the smaller town departments have been watching for expired plates since the number of them has gone way up after the state suspended mailing out renewal notices. They have added checking for front plates onto their "to do" list. Maybe this practice won't catch on in the greater Chicago area like it has downstate.
I live in a state that requires front plates and I have never ran one on my Corvette. I have never been pulled over for it. Even if you got a ticket, I would think that it would more than likely be a fix-it ticket. The gamble is worth it to me for the ascetics value.

ascetic: characterized by or suggesting the practice of severe self-discipline and abstention from all forms of indulgence, typically for religious reasons.
(had to do this for the humor, i apologize in advance)

Documenting how long you have been in violation of a law is not really anything to brag about.
