Thanks, Olden Slowe. The Senior Instructor was abouut about what happened to the cars and he said the cars were purchased "without any warranty and then resold without any warranty thru a dealer in California". He may have meant that only the powertrain, steering, and suspension weren't warranteed, but that's not what he said. The aftermarket warranty would be a good option, especially since he mentioned getting a Z06 with 8K miles at $30K off!!
Probably blew up the pressure plate side stepping it. That was one of the things I thought was dumb. Certainly spring mtn people have to know that's not the fastest way to launch an M7.
They also tried to get me to not use throttle upon initial take off. After killing the car a couple times in the heat, I decided to drive it how I do normally, and figured I'd ask for an A8 if anyone bitched. No one bitched. No way I'm gonna super granny take off when the A8 people got to launch quick...
Actually I asked how often they could dump the clutch on the manual before they had to replace the clutch, pressure plate, etc. The response was "If its in your car, it doesn't matter since its covered under the warranty".
For those who havent been to the school or didnt hear them mention it, their cars are "purchased" without warranty and then resold when they get to about 8k miles, but without warranty and with full disclosure that the car has been used at the school.
Actually the cars will have the remainder of their GM bumper-to-bumper warranty intact. GM places a block on the power train, steering, and suspension warranties, however. Aftermarket warranties to cover those areas are available and affordable. There is one in particular that pays the dealer directory for approved warranty work, the car owner doesn't have to pay upfront and then hope for reimbursement later as with some other aftermarket policies that are available.
If it's either GMPP (now Ally) or GMEPP as the aftermarket "warranty" companies, I can't imagine either company selling/giving an extended "warranty" on a car that is initially powertrain "blocked" by GM (as well as other major systems). If it is yet another company and one that we don't know about, it might be nice to name them so we do know about them.
To all of you M7 owners who jump in with "I am so glad that I bought an M7 instead of the A8" every time an A8 failure is posted, let me say that I am so glad that I did not get an M7 and am very happy with my A8.
As for their recommendation to give no throttle when starting off, I can only imagine they've seen too many people rev the day lights out of them and ride the clutch when starting to roll. In daily living, I'd go crazy with the clutch-only take offs.

I have signed up for a Spring Mountain course, and would certainly like some guidance on launching... Do they teach on launching the C7, as per the video? Or is that something only the instructors do, and not the students?

They do not teach launching the vehicle. They told my group that they did at the beginning of the C7 release but found that it wasted to much time. You will have a blast. I can't wait to go back for level 2.

No launch practice as already posted unfortunately. They roll up and do a quick launch demo of each trans for you at the end of the second day. While you are driving, they actually want you to take off in the M7 with NO throttle. This is really my only complaint about an otherwise awesome experience. Either they didn't notice me ignoring them, or they backed off once they realized I know how to drive.

Hmm. That actually the main reason I signed up... Hopefully they can do me a favor and provide some assistance. There is absolutely nowhere around here where I could practice without a very expensive ticket & vehicle being impounded.
