Nav update or Android Auto
My 2014 vert's Navigation map is 2 yrs old now.
Looking at future map upgrade or maybe Android Auto install.
Can ya'll fill me in on the costs & procedures?
Do I have to take it to the dealer, or something I can update myself?

Dealer installed Android Auto on my car during my first oil change. Works well with my LG G4 using Google maps. You have to download and install Android Auto on your phone to sync with the car using a USB port.

The 14 does not have the hardware required to take the Android Auto update. The guy above is probably talking about the SW update to his 2016 that enabled Android Auto after March 2016.
You miiiight be able to retrofit but that's a very very very slim chance. EDIT: I stand corrected, as Rooster has explained below, it can be retrofitted, but it ain't going to be cheap. Also, the aftermarket thing he's talking about (I believe) is the NavTool.

You can upgrade your hmi module, but to do that and include android auto I think it's around $1500 for the hardware. I think the install is pretty straightforward. Upgrading the nav info would certainly be easier. There is one aftermarket solution, but I don't know how much fortitude you have for going that route.

Nav update, probably. Android Auto, not available for the 2014 or 2015. Only 2016 and after. Cannot back fit.
