About ready to make some changes to the c7 system. Wanting to change to focals for the vocals and JL audio for the subs and amps. I have read reviews on other speakers such as hertz, frog audio etc... there are so many brands that you cant keep up. I'm not someone that goes for the name just 'cause, I have heard an amazing system with focals and JL. Does anyone have any opinion on other brands that I could possibly explore that is equal or close in value ?? not trying to get the cheapest system ,but not trying to break the bank either. I listen to all types of music. not just trying to be the loudest or deepest base. nice clear sound that thumps when turned up.
Focal is awesome, so I'd stick with that. As far as subs go, I personally like the Kicker Comp R but JL is fine. However, Comp R's in a ported box equates to some insane and deep bass if you decide to conjure some up.
Kickers get loud but they don't get very low and are known to sound dirty.
I ran a FI SSD for several years and I've never heard another sub as clean and musical in it's price range.
By the the brands you listed, you seem like a person that likes sound quality. I'd recommend a 10" FI SSD. It's hand built to order and it only requires .2 cu. ft. of airspace.

Hey Dave, I got an email from you asking what dB meter I used, and I've been out of the country for a bit so thought I'd answer your question here - sorry for the delay.
My measurements used for the post listed here: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...surements.html were from a professional dB meter I borrow from my friend - his son uses the meter professionally. I also downloaded the 'sound meter' app on my phone. This app meter had the ability to calibrate it, so I calibrated it to the professional meter. It was surprisingly accurate. Hope this helps! Definitely worth doing; I've done it on both of our C7s and got the same results. Thanks, Paul

I used to sell and install car audio many years ago but kept my hand in on my own cars; Focal is an excellent brand, a quality speaker. As for subs those mentioned are just fine. Within a certain price range (100 - 300 per woofer) its really hard to go wrong. One misconception is size (yup). I found a well made 10 inch, in a car, creates far tighter bass, the cone reacts faster and you get less of that "billowy" response. A ported box will require less power but, again can sound sloppier with the air "huffing" in and out of the port. A sealed box requires more power but you often get a tighter, sharper bass. Just food for thought and ears, enjoy your tasty selections.,
I don't blast my music loud, I just like it crystal clear with tight, accurate bass at an enjoyable level. That being said, I'm running Focal front stage and JL amp & sup in my C5 - phenomenal system. The C5 has enough room to run a 12W6, I personally don't feel like the W3 and lower are worth their cost. I would argue that Hertz is as good as Focal if you get their higher range speakers. The C7 is much more restrictive on space than the C5 though, when I get around to doing my audio upgrade I'll probably be going with an active 3-way front stage with Stereo Integrity speakers and 2 of their BM-series shallow subs, likely through a Audison Bit DSP and their AV 5.1k amp. The rear speakers are useless, I wouldn't waste any money there. I would definitely do sound deadening wherever possible, especially in the doors if you're going to be upgrading the speakers.
