Actually, there won't be according to Car & Driver. The Mid Engine will debut as a separate model in 2017 as a 2018 model and sell along with the C7 Stingrays. By 2020 or 21 the Mid Engine will be the ONLY Vette available as a C8 It will be like the current Vette with different trim levels and engines.
GM would be beyond stupid to do what C&D says.

I, like every other Corvette owners have their personal preference as to transmissions. So you will have to answer that for yourself. For me, I've had one Corvette that was automatic and three others, including current C7, that are manual, and the only regret was the automatic. My requirements for a sports car include a manual. You will need to figure out what your requirements consist of.
