No I don't leave the hood open to let the heat escape, but I do leave the garage door open to let the heat escape.

I do set a timer on the stove so I don't forget to shut it. otherwise, I wake up to kitteh prints all over them.

On the C7, the heat extractor vent will bleed the heat out of the engine bay just fine.

Not so much on the C5 and C6. Don't know why, but I've been a believer that you don't bleed heat through a composite panel. Perhaps a carry over from my days of flying aircraft built primarily from composites which could degrade due to heat over time.

Now the real reason I pop the hood on all of them is to attach the Ctek - I've installed the Ctek's charging plug for each car in the right rear of the engine bay, even though two of the cars are rear battery.

In the summer, yes. I let it cool iff in the driveway.

In the winter, no. Garage is below the bedrooms...cheap heat in the winter.

I do when it's hot, above 100 here in Texas. If I just park and close garage door it will be about 120 next time I go in garage. So I raise hood leave garage door open till it cools down. This is for me not car, don't think it hurts car, just me.

Nope, if I did I would feel like I need to detail all that "stuff" under there.

Ditto here in Georgia, in summer a closed garage holding a hot car gets very warm and this heat transfers through the walls into the house increasing your A/C load and cost.. Open the hood and leave the garage door half way open, let the heat escape to the outside then close up...

In winter, open the hood, close the garage and advance the rate of heat transfer into the house...

That's the primary reason I open my hood. Secondly, I don't think leaving all that heat in the engine compartment is good for anything. Heat is known to degrade components, especially electronics.

I don't open the hood on my C6, or my Chevy Silverado, or my Honda Accord.

These motors are built of material to withstand high temps. The wear and tear comes into play with moving parts. I could be wrong, but I don't believe you will experience significant life extension by airing out your motor compartment. Belts wear from constant turning. Hoses wear out under pressure environments.
My opinion is based on what I have read about motors and their aging. No expert by any means and would welcome any contrary opinions and facts. Thank you.

Always open the hood after coming into the garage after a drive. Why bake the hood or anything under the hood anymore than necessary. Let the heat out, everything including the block cools down quicker. Any painted surface will deteriorate quicker with excessive heat, any rubber, plastic items will deteriorate quicker. Edges of the fenders that butt the hood, paint will deteriorate quicker. Yes it may take 5 yrs to see the difference.

Gets pretty hot in VB isn the summer and engine heats up garage so I do sometime pop the hood. In the winter it heats my garage nicely.

This is another reason to open my hood. It brings a smile to my face everytime I see it.

As mentioned a few times already.
Yes I open it at track events and days when the fan kicks on with the motor shut off.
I like to make sure all is working well under the hood at a track event. The heat quickly dissipates when the hood is up compared to just opening and going to check oil and other items.

To quote a few others - what ever floats your boat

Funny you should ask. I thought I was the only one who does that. Well not often but we have had one of the hottest summers on record here in North Carolina. Just walking into a closed garage you feel a blast of oven type heat. On some hot days after driving C7 when I pull back in the garage I leave the garage open for awhile and up went the hood. Probably not needed to get extra heat out, but figured it wouldn't do any harm and might help.
