Default A Tech Head question

2016 C7, A8. If an axle has to be replaced, can it be done just by removing the wheel and pulling the axle or does the whole diff/trans unit have to be lowered out of the car? And if so, does the rear have to be re-aligned after all is put back together?

Highplaines, I'm sure this is in reference to your warble sound. I just posted in the quite long thread that mine has had the same problem since new, but at 1500 miles I haven't heard it recently. However, I'm sure it just hasn't been in the sweet spot. With that said, I'm interested in the answer to this question also as I'm sure mine will be in the shop for the fix soon.

On my '16 M7 Z06 we had to replace an axle due to a manufacturing defect and complete failure.

I'm 99% sure it was done with the car on the lift and the rear was not completely dropped.
