I haven't found it in the book but it's my understanding that as you exit the car if you push the sensor button it turns off the "Interior Motion Sensor Alarm" for that cycle until the car is restarted. Then the default is:
"Interior Motion Sensor Alarm" active again when you leave the car the next time.

Reason: Additional Info:
Yep it disables the interior motion sensor. I have to hit that button when my dog is with me and I run into a convenience store. The first several times I did that without hitting the button she set my alarm off.
For the 2015 check page 2-18 Keys, Doors, and Windows:
Intrusion and Inclination
Sensors Disable Switch
It is recommended that the intrusion
and inclination sensors be
deactivated if pets are left in the
vehicle or the vehicle is being
transported.
With the vehicle turned off, press ^
to the right of the hatch/trunk
release button. The indicator light
will come on momentarily, indicating
that these sensors have been
disabled for the next alarm system
arming cycle.
It is hard to find when they don't call it the "Motion Sensor" like everybody else calls it!!
I turn mine off when I'm trailering the car to track events so it doesn't start honking for the whole trip.
I left my wife in the car once when I went had to go into a gas station because the pump wouldn't take my credit card swipe. When I came out the car was honking. My wife thought it was some other car!

yep, this is the real deal, push the button and the alarm system is shut off, default position is on... Often use this when i leave the window open or the wife sitting in the car after i shut it off........
Was at a car show that was very dry and dusty day, and had the windows almost all the way up and the car locked. Left the car to walk around when someone threw a show flyer in my car. It set off the motion detector.

Yes there's a thread here about that. On the driver's side on the top of the windshield where the top sinks into it there's a small hole with a little switch that if not depressed (top in on) disables the motion sensor. At first I, like many others, thought it dumb to disable the motion sensor with the top off. I mean would you really want it then? But as you can see the slightest thing like a leaf falling into your car will set the sucker off so it's probably better that it's disabled. But be armed with the knowledge that if your top is off so is the motion sensor.
yep got the same problem. Mine goes off when parked outside and the temp rises to 90 deg. Thunder and a yard blower can also set it off. Never had this problem with earlier model. Mine is 2016.

Side note, it is deactivated if you have the top off, put a marret in the driver's side front roof pin hole if you want to keep it active. Why GM made it like this I have no idea, makes ZERO sense.
I have hit that a few time trying to open the trunk. Have been meaning to look it up but ahh, the manual is thick. Although I knew there is an alarm, I had no idea it was so high tech. Of course I generally dont let my wife and not many passengers either I have yet to set of the alarm. Im guessing there is no exterior point you can touch to lock the car or open the trunk?
