I'm going to be visiting the museum next week while I'm in the area, and because I'm a west coast person I don't get many chances to travel to Kentucky and want to make sure I don't miss anything. I'm doing the VIP factory tour and planning on spending a few hours at the museum.
Is there any must see things that some folks might miss?
Great place to stay while in Bowling Green is the La Quinta Inn. Depending on where you will be while in Kentucky, a visit to Markers Mark distillery in Loretto, KY is nice. Don't waste your time with Jim Beam distillery.
Unusual place to eat(but with great food) is the Whistle Stop in Glendale, KY(exit #86 off I-65)

If you have the time take one of the tours at Mammoth Cave National Park. It's a short ride from Bowling Green.
Sign up in advance as the tours sell out. Pretty interesting, way better than I thought they be.
it's unfortunate most others don't check other parts of the forum...just road tripped up there last week. Check out Mammoth Cave National Park and Lost River.
Make sure you take in a tour of the plant. It's outstanding!
Just left the Plant/Museum last Wednesday. Stayed at the La Quinta for the second time. Nice place, and close to the Museum. If you want to take a lap at the Motorsports Park, call now to make a reservation. I didn't think to call them, and missed a great opportunity. Oh well, next time. Enjoy your trip.
I had a great time at this hotel....Staybridge Suites Bowling Green. Large room, full kitchen, great service, and in downtown Bowling Green. The museum was a few miles up the road.

Try the Drury inn and tell them you are with the museum and you should get around a $90.00 rate.
You also get a free breakfast and evening food and drinks for around $.75
Popcorn pretty much all the time.
Nice staff. Experienced visitors usually use the Drury. Most have tried a lot of the different motels.
I believe its one/two exits south of the museum quick trip

If you're going to be in that area for a couple of days, take a trip 60 miles south on I-65 to Nashville, TN. Go down to Broadway Street and enjoy the nightlife and places to eat.
