All three of my C5s have had the HUD. It's one feature that I plan to have on any new Vette I own.

After 6 mths with my first HUD I like it. But I'm still getting used to it. I find myself looking at the gauges out of habit then thinking 'just look at the HUD idiot...'

Nice feature, not a must have though.

I added the HUD to my C6 since it didn't come factory equipped with it in a 2009 2LT. Absolutely love it in that car, because it is so much easier to get an idea of your speed just glancing at the large digital speedometer, rather then the analog one. Really the speedometer is the only thing I look at on the HUD. When figuring out the options on my C7 I sat in one for quite some time at the Bash and played with the screen settings in the gauge cluster. This can now be so customized and shows the same info or more as the HUD (although a little bit lower in field of vision). It also shows me that large digital speedometer which I really wanted. So while I initially had made up my mind to go with a 2LT, I ended up getting a 1LT. Have not had one second regrets about not getting the HUD

I've had it on my C5's, C6, and now my C7. After driving with it on multi-day trips to Indy and Road America then getting back into my ATS that doesn't have it I find myself looking at the windshield for it. Not distracting at all to me.

If I'm running through the gears(acceleration contest), I'm looking at my HUGE analog tach directly in front of me so I can shift at exactly 6,800 RPM's. The HUD is no good for that. To hard to get a good reading and I don't want to hit the REV limiter.
To me, it's a gimmick.[/QUOTE]
Sounds like you've never used the "Track" setting for the HUD.
I personally love it and miss it in my car that doesn't have it.

HUD is a must have option for me. Commands the 2LT/3LT interior option (worth every cent). I use it all the time, ignore is when information is not applicable to the situation. Must admit I expected more color highlights when I first heard about the color presentation prior to ordering my C7.

Love the HUD too. Can't understand why turn signals are not part of the display. Instead they are in the center DIC and positioned so that the steering wheel obstructs them! .
I often try to use the feature where you just bump the turn signal, it flashes 3 times then stops. Never know when I've done it correctly until I move my head so that I can see the silly turn signal flashing. Wish it were in the HUD instead. Did it used to be? I forget...

I had a 2005 XLR and it came it with a HUD too.
The image quality of the Z's is a little better and it displays more info as well.
The strange thing I have learned about HUDs is, apparently, it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks.
35 years of driving without one has made me look at the dash gauges instinctually.
The HUD would be a better option, if I could TRAIN myself to use it 90% of the time, but I can't seem to...
However, that's on ME, not the technology or GM.

The HUD on my C-7 is my first and it is now an integral part of my interface with the car. The main dash layout is secondary information and the analog speedo is just wasted space.

I'm 6'4" and wish It would go higher up, it sits so low in my field of vision that I find it almost irrelevant. I think that for a shorter person it would work much better. The other thing is if you wear polarized sunglasses it practically disappears.

I like the HUD, not a must have. The one quirky thing about it is that it does not sit level with the horizon and it is tilted slightly to the right. Does anyone else have this condition? It is like someone forgot to install a shim or a grommet.

Mine is completely square/level to the car, but you're not the first to mention this issue.

Sometimes you just can't teach an old dog new tricks.

And sometimes that "old" dog knows that if he ignores the new trick, he will be left alone so he can nap. Not so much that he can't learn the new trick, but smart enough to know that he doesn't have to jump through hoops when he can sleep instead.
