I didn't get the Nav. with my GS is they any Android phone apps that will let me see driving directions on the car screen ?
Thanks,
DFA
It comes with "Android Auto". Plug in your phone and "Projection" icon on the car's screen should change to "Android Auto". Press it and you can then use Google maps (it basically displays what's on your phone).
It's my understanding that you need the nav in order to use Android Auto. Also, you forgot to tell him to download the Android Auto App to his phone. Plus if he doesn't have a 2016 or better, or hasn't had the update then AA won't work.
OP, there are tons of apps that run on the phone, for example Google Maps itself. If you want to run that on the big screen you'll have to have 2016 or greater, had the firmware updated and possibly have the Nav.

No you don't. Everyone has Android auto/Apple car play. Not everyone has Nav.

curious to know if you need navigation in the car for the nav apps on the phone to work
first I've heard of that
I would think it would just use the gps in the phone
I'm looking to buy and it makes a big difference

Again, that's not the case. It does not even make sense. Android auto an Car play are built into the infotainment system.
I have no use for the PDR
If I understand correctly you still get the parking cameras
For me it would be $1800 bucks for the nav (and I think a little nicer radio)
Not worth it to me
i don't have nav but i do have android auto and I've used google maps a few times. i do have problems with it freezing at a turn an need to be reloaded. I've only used it on one trip so i may not be doing it correctly yet.
folks seem to talk up Waze as a nav app
My current vehicle doesn't have android auto but I've played with Waze on my phone and it seems to work quite well
Might want to check it out
My bad on the "need nav to do AA". To my credit I did say "possibly".
People seem to go bonkers for Waze. I don't know. To me is seemed a little childish. I appreciate the alerts though I do believe they breed a false sense of security. Many times I arrive at where the cop or accident is supposed to be but there is none to be found. Also some of the warnings I don't care to receive. I mean when I'm on the 6 laned I-15 here in San Diego and am in say lane 4, I don't really care that there's a vehicle stopped on the shoulder as that not even close to where I'm driving.
I also find it difficult to report anything myself when driving because my phone screen is not that big and, hell, I'm driving. Perhaps Waze on the big screen will be better. Again, right now I use GM on the big screen and (sometimes) Waze for audible alerts in the background.
I was under the impression that AA could mirror any app on your phone to the in-car screen
Is that not the case?
I have Waze on my phone, would it still not work with AA?

Your impression is wrong. The whole point of AA and CP is to give you the information you need while restricting unnecessary and dangerous distractions. Do you think that firing up YouTube to watch a movie on the large screen of your car would not be considered distracting?!?
AA currently works with google maps with a usb cord from the phone. I was told that waze is being worked on to function with AA but not yet ready. If this has changed I'm sure someone will let us know.
well, thanks for the info
actually youtube on the screen wouldn't be much worse that youtube on my phone but only a moron would watch either
actually nav on either is pretty distacting but seems to be the rage these days
us old farts can read a map(which is also distracting to do while driving)
1. Waze will be coming to AA this year (according to Android) the reason for the delay as i understood it was that the developers wanted to make the buttons on the steering wheel work with waze in AA, so for example if you see a jam you just press a button on the steering wheel.
2. Re the NAV, the supplied nav is pretty childish looking (like a little tykes Nav) however the fact that directions appear in the instrument cluster and the HUD display means i use that in the background just because the HUD nav is so convenient around town

Yeah, but try manufacturing something that distracting and made to go into a car and see if you can get the government clearance to do so. You won't be able to. Quite frankly I'm surprised that Tesla managed to get in such things into it's Model S with 17in screen. Still read https://www.theguardian.com/technolo...r-harry-potter.
And don't kid yourself - even young people can read maps if necessary just like I could learn to use a buggy whip. It's just that there's little reason to do either of those things anymore.
