Ally (the old GMAC) will no longer offer a GM Protection Plan. If you want an extended service contract you'll have to buy the one that GM offers directly.

While I would strongly recommend the GM plan, Ally's GMPP was one of many 3rd party plans that are available. Many here (including me) were high on Ally/GMPP because they were licensed by GM and were sold by many GM dealers. But they were a 3rd party plan, and many of those still exist, so you aren't stuck with only the GM option (but I personally, would only buy the GM version).
We've had some discussion of this on the C6 forum as well. Ally/GMPP Were losing their GM license and integration with the GM service systems at the end of 2016, as has been known for a while.
Known informally as GMEPP, but will be the Chevrolet (or other GM brand name) Extended Protection Plan. Lots of posts here about it, been available from GM for a couple of years now.
The new plan is commonly known as GMEPP. Ken Fichtner has been running special sales prices on it most of the summer and fall. It does have some advantages to Corvette owners with the MSRC system. GMPP did not cover that.
Do a search on either GMEPP or GMPP, and you'll find plenty of information.

My key understanding of the Major Guard GMEPP is that after GM disavowed themselves your vin wont show it in the service computer after Jan 1. Otherwise still supported.

That's either a typo above or a misunderstanding.
"Major Guard" is the old GMPP program provided by Ally, which soon will be uncoupled from GM and the dealer network. GMEPP is the new program, which will will soon be the only program integrated with the GM service and warranty record system.
You're not alone. Info on the two competing programs has been constantly portrayed inaccurately on this forum. It's caused mass confusion among people trying to figure out which one to purchase. Hopefully, GM's recent actions to end the relationship with Ally will make it clear which is "official GM" and which is Ally.
It doesn't necessarily mean the GM will now be "good" and Ally "bad." It just means only one extended warranty product will carry the GM brand and be integrated into the dealer service network.

Excellent, well-written, easy to understand reply...just what the OP wanted,
All Ally did was lose the right to use the GM name for their product. It doesn't mean that is the end of life for their product.

I agree. Not only that, GMEPP has been around since just before the C7 came out. So, the handwriting has been on the wall that GMPP was being replaced/slowly phased out, and that there wouldn't be two companies able to have easy access to dealer computers/cars.
I think the sale of GMAC to Ally in '09 came w/ terms that allowed them to use GM branding for a specified period. The most logical explanation is that agreement is near expiration.
GMEPP was introduced several years ago in anticipation of it becoming the only GM-branded product once the Ally deal expired.
