It states right in the letter how long the update will take. I don't have mine with me, but believe it says 0.5 - 2 hours.

Had mine done last week - took one cup of coffee, a donut, a smoke, and two pages of my book = 35 minutes!

Recall
The air bag recall was fixed before I finished the second donut. No problems afterwards.

It the tech has done it before, it takes less than 30 minutes, once they have the car in the service bay.

From the recall notice, the time required depends on what needs to be done. If a simple reprogram- 20 minutes, if the vehicle has previous deployment events recorded in the SDM, then the SDM must be replaced, and it is under the console in the middle of the car- so 2 hours or more.
I have driven my car for 2-1/2 years the way it is, so I may not take mine in until the inspection sticker expires next year.

Tex,
Just because you haven't had an accident in 2.5 years, doesn't mean you won't have one later today.
It seems to me that as soon as one becomes aware that the airbags may not deploy, the smart decision is to get it taken care of ASAP.

I took mine the following weekend after the recall was announced, the dealership was extremely packed and it was done within 2 hours. I pretty sure with normally scheduled about an hour.

I have yet to receive a recall notice. Bought new from dealer. I wouldn't have known about it if it wasn't for this forum.
Had the oil changed and the update done this morning. Total of one hour.

I don't see any reason to take it in either...
The airbag MAY not function.
It may work too
What did we do 25 years ago.... did we all for?
I don't like anybody working on my car. The next owner can take care of it.
