My SRT8 Challenger had a push button start like the Vette does. If the push button failed for some reason, you could pop the button off and put your key, that was stored in the fob, in the ignition and start it that way. Or if you wanted a better way to put your car into 'accessories', you would just turn the key foward. Just like old school cars. Does the Vette have the same thing behind the button? Or is the only place you can use the key is in the trunk?
The key is just to open the car. There's a slot in the steering wheel to put the whole fob if it dies so you can start it. Push and hold the start button with no brake or clutch for about 10 seconds and the car will go into service mode which is the same as having the engine running. Just don't forget to hit the button again to turn the car off.
Ok cool. Thanks. Dodge did it different. If fob batteries died, you could still start the car.
Perhaps it wasn't clear but with a failed FOB battery you can:
1) remove the metal key from the FOB, insert it in the key slot above the rear license plate and pop the hatch.
2) pull the handle on the left wheel well cover, it opens the drivers door
3) put the FOB in the slot on the steering column mentioned and start the car.
