I would think it would not be an issue with just the word "Corvette". Now, had they used the Logo, or " Crossed Flags" they might come after their copyright.
Also used the term STINGRAY. I foresee problems with the GM licensing folks on the horizon. Hope I'm wrong 'cuz that's a fine looking piece.
I hope that won't be an issue. It's a one off, not for sale item.
Besides, the ring actually commemorates the Spainish and Italian Corvette class naval vessel. The Corvette is a small warship and fast attack craft in use by multiple countries.
My ring was made to pay tribute to the 2,014 th Corvette made. The warship was named Stingray. Unfortunately on its maiden voyage it struck an iceberg and sank with all hands except one guy who clung to a P285/30ZR20 tire that mysteriously appeared in the water next to him. He was awarded the Corvette Stingray Silver Cross with Oak Leaf Clusters medal for bravery.*
*Originally they wanted to court marshal him for dereliction of duty but found that the PR would have been a nightmare.
Anyway, my ring commemorates this ship and event so I don't see an issue with GM. Yeah, they'll buy that.
My son knows my passion with Corvettes. He had a company that makes class rings come up with a cool design based on my 2014 for an early Christmas present. I think it turned out pretty well.
