Default First time trying out PDR, FYI

My 2015 C7 will be out of warranty in about 6 months ( > 36000 miles) so I figured I better try the PDR out.

Got out the owners manual, page 7-1, and went to Best Buy looking for a 32 GB ,Class 10 SD card and had read somewhere that it had to be formatted in the FAT file system.

Bought a Sandisk Pixtor 32GB ,High Performance SDHC memory card and package says it is Class 10. Customer support at Sandisk confirmed it was the FAT file system . ( on sale for $ 17.99)
Plugged it into the car, followed the prompts on the cars screen, and it works perfectly......easy.

Only issue is the video quality from the PDR is poor and I have read on our forum there is a software update that GM can do for improved quality, which I will have done next time in the shop, before the warranty is up.

.....Don't know if 64GB or higher capacity cards will work or if XFAT and other file systems will work but what I got is "plug & Play" , FYI.

My build date was August 2014, one of the first 2015's. You probably have better/updated software in you '16 which is what I think will improve my video quality......fingers crossed.

Just picked up a 2017 Z06
bought a 64 bit card (best I could find)
PDR did not record
dealer said 32 was the highest PDR would accept
went out and switched cards, PDR now records and color/definition is great

Correct, stick with the 32GB card.

No, any size card will work as long as it is formated in FAT32. There have been a lot of threads on this.

This issue is, it is a bit of a challenge to get a card larger than 32GB formated in FAT32. In Windows you have to download a third party program to format card larger than 32 GB to FAT32. It's not really that hard for someone who is tech savvy. I have a 65GB in my PDR formated in FAT32

My '15 was built in Nov 14. The video quality is not as good as it could be IMO - same as has been reported elsewhere. Took it in this past summer to the selling dealer for the PDR update (which would also kill the valet audio) and they could not get the update to take. Couldn't leave the car overnight so for now it is still the same.

I have a 64gb in mine and it works just fine. You just have to download a third party program for your pc to format it to fat32 as native windows will not do traditional fat 32 on cards over 16 or 32gb. Not sure which it is right off hand.

Our '15 C7 was an early built one and the PDR pix quality was very poor (green image). After update (took about 2 hrs. in 2015) pix quality was better (more natural look) but not as good as it is in our 2017 GS. GM must have improved video quality quite a bit in recent C7's. Get the update done, it's worth the time spent at dealership.

CNET offers several free third party apps that will convert larger cards to fat32. Do you have a Windows based pc, or a Mac?

I heard you lose audio in valet mode if you update the software which is why I haven't done it. Is this still true?

It shouldn't be a problem on Macs. Disk Utility will format FAT32 and I wouldn't expect a size limit.

For a while the GM "fix" files was posted here but the powers to be had them taken down and the links removed. Some forum member probably still have the files, but I do not anymore. Better than wasting your time going to the Stealership. Easy to apply the fix, but sometimes you have to apply the update twice. Maybe someone will chime in willing to privately send them to you. It improves the color but the picture is still not great.

Thanks for posting up the format and the idea. I need to get comfortable with recording video before my VIR track days in March. Found the $17.99 deal on Amazon.
